use a usb external drive as backup?
hi!
is it possible to connect a external usb drive to the pch and copy all the movies to the usb drive? it would be great to do so, i have saved a lot of movies and music on the internal drive and it would be a shame to lose it all. |

Or you could use your computer to control all the hard drives connected. *PCH C-200 *SAMSUNG ECOGREEN F2 1.5TB (HD154UI) *BD LITEON IHOS104-37 * Dlink DIR-635 wired LAN *LG 47LG7000 1080P@ *Yamaha RX-V458 + 5.1 speakers *HDMI + optical out *4x 1TB WD Elements USB |

mongot;
Definitely back it up! I have 5.8TB of media, 5TB of which is backed-up. And as soon as I can afford another 1TB drive, I'll be backing-up the rest. A couple of years ago I wouldn't have been so fussy, but when you've had a hard drive fail on you once you never run the risk again...! |

RE: use a usb external drive as backup?
ok nice, then i must go and buy me a usb drive,but are there any backup function implemented in the pch firmware?
i have aprox. 300 gb of movies and music in the internal drive,it must take days to copy all that? because when i copy a 700mb movie from my laptop to pch it takes about 10-15 minutes. thanks for the quick reply on my questions |

RE: use a usb external drive as backup?
as far as I know you have to manually transfer the files, so no backup feature on the pch itself. Correct me if I am wrong...
On the Ax00 units it takes some time to copy yes. It all depends on the transfer method, wired or wireless connection etc. So let the pch run over night

To transfer a large amount on the A100 etc. you could use this method:-

I don't get these so called freezes. Did you format the hard drives to EXT2 or 3? That will speed up the access time. *PCH C-200 *SAMSUNG ECOGREEN F2 1.5TB (HD154UI) *BD LITEON IHOS104-37 * Dlink DIR-635 wired LAN *LG 47LG7000 1080P@ *Yamaha RX-V458 + 5.1 speakers *HDMI + optical out *4x 1TB WD Elements USB |

RE: use a usb external drive as backup?
you need to download gparted , just google it.
If order to use the hard drives in your computer you need to install some drivers. Ex: EXT2FSD / EXT2IFS . So it's a little more work but well worth the time. The PCH does not handle NTFS hard drives at the same speed as EXTx. *PCH C-200 *SAMSUNG ECOGREEN F2 1.5TB (HD154UI) *BD LITEON IHOS104-37 * Dlink DIR-635 wired LAN *LG 47LG7000 1080P@ *Yamaha RX-V458 + 5.1 speakers *HDMI + optical out *4x 1TB WD Elements USB |
