Conversion to BD from HD digital camera (MOV)
....got new A-110, wasted weekend, 50% happy so far Cool...... but one thing I really wanted to do is use it do view movies from four previous digital cameras and my new HD camera.

At first I was disappointed by lack of support for old digital camera formats (ignore messages that say "this device supports everything"!) - then I found the best solution is to author DVDs (which I do in Nero 7) with menus to preview ... much easier to sort through those old 30-second clips now!. So far so good, until I get to my new HD movies, which loose resolution going to DVD.

Obvious solution... burn to BD format.

but I am a BD newby... I could go out and buy Nero 9, but I have always been disappointed by Nero, and sick of sending them more money every time a new technology comes along.

Could someone give me advice on a good BD authoring software -- or else assure me that Nero 9 will make something playable on NMT?

Many thanks.

Well, you do know the A-110 won't play a BD?

If you still want BD authoring software, you could look at TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4. It does BD and is pretty easy to use.

If you want the files to play on your A-110, it would be a good idea to provide the MediaInfo on a file your camera creates.

Doesn't play BD ?? Dratt.... OK, so it must play some kind of HD compilation, so that's what I want to make, right?

Meta data is below. It plays in the PCH with no sound. I have tried "Any Video Converter" to make it into a MP2 - this works for older files but not these. All I can do is turn it into a DVD file, which works.

Well here are the simple sollution to your problem
All you really need to do is convert the audio, cause the audio is the thing causing problems

Look in this thread for the simple guide I gave another with the same problem

Living room: C200/A200/A100 HDMI to Pioneer KURO KRP-500A plasma / Denon AVR 3808 / KEF 5005.2 / B&W DM685
Kids room: C200/A110 HDMI to Panasonic 42PZ85, Optical to Logitech Z5500.

Thankyou - I will try this to get the originals to play, but what I really want now is a way to turn all these short files (that take way to long to load and buffer on the PCH) into a DVD-like compilation with menus and controls --- but higher res than DVD. The video codec thing has blown my mind and I have no idea what I am looking for and what is supported.

RE: Conversion to BD from HD digital camera (MOV)
Well, the sad answer to that is you cant do that if you want to keep it in HD quality.

You can offcource authour a BD (BluRay disc) structure like you can author a DVD structure (using the right tools), this will give you similar options of menus and controls, but the NMT's and similar media streaming players are not designed to play back these kind of BD structures, only regular BluRay players are designed to do this and then only from BD discs. So if you want that you need to create the structure, burn it to a BD rom using a BD rom writer, and then play it on a normal BD player.

The newest NMT called the C-200 will do that, as this has full BluRay support - but other players wont.

You can mux several clips together into one long clip and play that, but if you want HD and menus/controls, then you need the above.

Naturally you can still create normal DVD structures, also from the HD files, but then you will have to reencode and loose quality. You cant keep the HD quality this way.

I'm not sure how you will do that?

The only thing, I know the PCH plays with menus are DVDs and you want to put a higher then normal res video in that structure.

I'm not sure if it can be hacked and if it can, will the PCH play it?

I can't answer but maybe someone else can?

Thank you again, Spawn. This is most helpful - even though I am now more disappointed and wishing I had researched more thoroughly. The best thing about the NMT is this amazing community.

I'll look next to see if I can set up a jukebox for these movies with some sort of thumbnails. That should eat up another weekend ;-)
