Lost FTP connection to Popcorn Hour
I have actually lost all connections with my popcorn hour via any computer. It shows up on my router as,

Name: PCH-A110: UPnP AV Server
Connection: Ethernet
Status: Online
IP Address: 192.168.1.7

But I cannot connect to it. I have changed all the settings, reset it. Downloaded firmware updates but nothing is working. My computer won't even recognize the popcorn hour when I plug it in manually.

All help will be appreciated!

Thank you,

Derek

RE: Lost FTP connection to Popcorn Hour
#1. Can you ping the PCH from your computer ?

#2. Is the FTP service started on the PCH ?

#3. Do you have the pure-ftpd process running on the PCH ? try running "ps -e|grep -i ftp" in a telnet session.

RE: Lost FTP connection to Popcorn Hour
For #3, you were supposed to have the telnet package installed (easy to do via CSI, but CSI uses FTP ... so not an option right now).

If you open a command prompt (Start, Run, "cmd", and "ftp 192.168.1.7" in the black window that appears), do you get some connection at all, maybe a login prompt ?

Yes I do, it says that I am user 1 out of 10 allowed followed by some disconnect information. I reattempted to find/add the PCH by mapping the network drive but it still can't find it.

RE: Lost FTP connection to Popcorn Hour
What does that disconnect message say ? Do you have some sort of firewall installed on your computer ?

RE: Lost FTP connection to Popcorn Hour
It basically states that I will be disconnected after 1440 minutes of inactivity. I should have stated that it just lists some info about the connection.

The only firewall on the computer is Windows firewall.

RE: Lost FTP connection to Popcorn Hour
Well, at that prompt try logging in (username: ftpuser, password: 1234 are the defaults). You should get something similar to this:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ftp 192.168.x.x
Connected to 192.168.x.x.
220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd ----------
220-You are user number 1 of 10 allowed.
220-Local time is now 21:51. Server port: 21.
220 You will be disconnected after 1440 minutes of inactivity.
User (192.168.x.x:(none)): ftpuser
331 User ftpuser OK. Password required
Password:
230-This server supports FXP transfers
230 OK. Current directory is /
ftp> dir
200 PORT command successful

RE: Lost FTP connection to Popcorn Hour
I have that with a few extra items. Unfortunately I still can't connect elsewhere
I should probably tell you that I am trying to map the network drive or just connect via internet explorer. I just want to be able to move files onto the hard drive again.

Thank you both for your help.

RE: Lost FTP connection to Popcorn Hour
For a mapped network drive, you need to have the Samba service started on the PCH (try turning it off and on, just to make sure it's running properly), and in a Windows Explorer window, type: \\192.168.1.7, and you should get a username/password prompt (which are nmt/1234). If this works, you can go and map a drive letter to the network path (Tools -> Map Network Drive in Windows Explorer).
