The only way I could do this would be using HTML5 video playback, which has limited audio and video codec support, and that might vary between the different tablets. That means either on-the-fly transcoding by your HTTP streamer, or pre-transcoded files with an alternate URL. That complicates things quite a bit.

If playback can be done using HTML 5, then I could probably figure out a way to generate the alternate URL using the library description as a key, with some additional configuration (probably in skin-options.xsl) for each library.

Don't think this is possible, as I believe upnp requires using HTTP POST, and that won't work because of cross-domain security restrictions. Even if it is technically possible, is goes at the bottom of the list. Using upnp instead of PLoNK with the 100-series is appealing, but I think upnp only supports HTTP streaming, and the remote control commands are very limited.

Can you explain this a bit more? I see the tvthumbs have a different aspect ratio, so that is one thing that changes. What else?

Again, you'll have to provide more details here, but even then this goes way down at the bottom of the todo list.
