Music Unofficial Music Plug in for UMC
Guys!

I've not seen any posts on this subject but I implore you to try the unofficial music plug-in for UMC. I found it from the UMC wiki http://www.hdd-player.de/umc/wiki/index....tension_en

I've got all my music on a NAS in an iTunes format. I configured the xml (it's not in the UMC Gui) which took me 2 minutes. I ran it, it found over 7,000 mp3's and all the artwork from the iTunes default "folder.jpg" naming.

I then ran UMC and went into the Music menu and viola! it looks just the same as the movies section with all the same controls for the quick keyboard, genres etc. AND IT JUST WORKS - NO FUSS!! ALL the artwork was there!

It took me less than 10 minutes from downloading the zip file to playing the music!

You MUST try this out if you're a UMC user and get some recognition for this great add-on. Let's get it included into UMC proper.

I've not got into great depth as I only installed it 10 minutes ago - but give it a try!

@T800,

Sorry fella, but i'm about as technical as a spoon so can't help you on that one!

Still, shows how easy it is via Windows!

Maybe one of the UMC devs can let the author (Thica) know to get on to the English site to answer such questions?

RE: Unofficial Music Plug in for UMC
I will inform thica about this thread.

Thica is since a few weeks a member of the UMC team. Currently the UMC music extension works only on windows based systems but as i heared he will try to cross compile the extension (written in C++) so that it can run also under linux and so on.

We are currently preparing UMC to also support other extensions which can be implemented in any language. It will be something like the current skin interface.

RE: Unofficial Music Plug in for UMC
Do you see the unofficial Music Plug-in becoming the official one?

Where do you see the "Photo" section going? Obviously with Movies, Series and Music there is cover art, banners and backdrops pulled from online resources etc. Would Photos maybe just create date folders with cover images for the folders??
Just curious.Smile

RE: Unofficial Music Plug in for UMC
Hello,

thanks for the great feedback to UMCMusic. Currently I am a little bit busy (today and tommorrow in Barcelona, Friday in Munich and starting Sarturday 8 days in Romania with NO PC access), but just a short comment:

UMCMusic and MAC: Unfortunately I will not be able to crosscompile to MAC because of "no MAC skill at all". It should work with an Windows emulator, as no GUI functions are used. I will try to cross compile to unix if I find a timeslot to do so.

UMCMusic and Apache: As I do not Apache installed I did not tried it, but I heard about problems with playlists (which would mean, that you play single songs but no full albums)

As UMC might have similar problems, I can fix it as soon it is fixed in UMC as I assume we just need a different playlist format.

Greetings from Germany

RE: Unofficial Music Plug in for UMC
Okay then.... Big Grin

My setup:

I'm using Windows 7 on my PC, the music is on my NAS which is mapped as network share MyMusic/Music from the PCH. I've got UMC 1.82 installed on the internal HDD of the PCH.

UMC ME finds all the music and they play fine, so I know all the paths are working correctly which is a good start!!

In the release notes it says UMC music extension (UMC ME??) will use embedded artwork but it does not say in what order the embedded artwork falls in the scan. I would have expected it to be the first place to scan for artwork but it looks like it uses artwork in the folder first. Is that correct? Can that be configured differently as I would like the embedded artwork always to be the first used?

I've exported a playlist from iTunes into M3u using iTunes Export and placed the m3u in the root of the music folder with the scan set to 0 but it's not showing up in the album list. Is there anyone who's sucessfully exported a playlist from iTunes and how did they do it?

The m3u shows the files relative to the PC location (i.e. x:\Music\song.mp3). Will the music extension find that path from the PCH as the path is different?

That's all for now!

RE: Unofficial Music Plug in for UMC
I did all like Bazrah, but when I go to music menu I get "Not available in this version!" message. I'm using v1.82-beta. What is wrong?

RE: Unofficial Music Plug in for UMC
@Egon

Did you get any error messages in the logs?

That message is what you would get if you hadn't run the music extension on UMC normally. There must be a flag in the database which the music extension changes to activate that menu.

Any idea how to get a screen grab from my telly? Photo? And how do I insert a photo into a post as it wants a URL?

RE: Unofficial Music Plug in for UMC
Yeah you could take a photo....

then signup for a photobucket account (free and quick) - worth doing as it comes in really handy....you just upload the photo from your comp and it gives you a url for the pic....you can then enter them into posts...

Simples...

Let me know if you need a hand.
