That's true for DVD but I don't think it's the case for BD -- I think there it's the OS that controls region. AFAIK there's no such thing as a region-free BD drive but it should be able to change regions indefinitely if the OS allows it...
However this function may be baked into the Sigma SoC and out of Syabas's control. |

RE: [C-200 BETA] Firmware 02-01-090904-19-POP-408 and Apps 02-01-090828-19-POP-408
i just want to make sure i understand it correctly, installing RPC1 firmware will enable my Blu-ray drive to be region free, therefore installing that Blu-ray drive into the C-200 will make it a Blu-ray region free player?
Thanks. |

No its region free up to 5 times. On the 5th time you set it whatever it is set to will remain. And the bdrom has to be reset by a tool if one is out there for it. Or a diff firmware installed. |

BUT, it will only be region free for retail DVD playing, the
regional settings for BluRay is taken care of by the OPERATING SYSTEM. So it is controled by TWO SEPARATE PROTECTIONS, one protection for retail Dvd and one other protection for retail BluRay

So what happens if you installl 2 blueray players? Can you set one to one region and the other to another? Does it take a unique ID from the player and store it? What happens if you try out many drives? Will it run out of room to store the region data, or will it knock out the oldest?

RE: [C-200 BETA] Firmware 02-01-090904-19-POP-408 and Apps 02-01-090828-19-POP-408
Theoreticaly you can install 5 players one for each region ( Dvd ), but
for BluRay you can install as many as you like, there will still only be one region because the region code for BluRay players is STORED IN THE OPERATING SYSTEM, not on the player

I guess the question would be, would the licence allow for the C-200 to read the drives unique ID and give 5 changes per ID before locking the ID's Region and not the C-200's. And perhaps the player could poll a public NTP server for the date and if the drive hasn't been seen in X months free up the space that stores its ID's setting..

Also remember 90% of bluray disc have been region free. only a select few titles were ever region locked.

This seem a very good tool I'm waiting for them to add my LiteON:-
http://ala42.cdfreaks.com/MCSE/ However their is a general LiteON region code removal tool LtnRPC which I'm dying to try but it means taking the BD ROM out of the C200 and I'm not sure it will work or not break something whereas the MCE has good forum support on cdfreaks. A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |
