Recovery if you are using firmware 03-04-110530-21-POP-408-000 or later
Quote:Follow these instructions to recover the Popcorn Hour C-200 if the firmware update fails.

This method is only applicable for the Popcorn Hour C-200 if you already updated sucessfully to Firmware 03-04-110530-21-POP-408 before.

1. Download the following zip file: http://files.syabas.com/popcornhour/down...110531.zip
2. Unzip recovery-image.bin file into the root of a USB thumbdrive (must be format to FAT32 or NTFS file system only).
3. Connect the Popcorn Hour C-200 to a TV through the Component or Composite or HDMI outputs.
4. Power up the Popcorn Hour C-200.
5. Component or Composite or HDMI video will display blue background with "Firmware recovery. Please insert USB"
6. Plug the USB thumbdrive into the Popcorn Hour C-200 USB port to start the recovery process.
7. After successful recovery, power cycle will bring it up again to 03-04-110531-21-POP-408-000 firmware.

If steps 1 - 7 stated above fail, follow these instructions:

A. Power down the Popcorn Hour C-200.
B. Insert a jumper on uart0 (see http://files.syabas.com/popcornhour/down...jumper.jpg for exact location)
C. Plug the same USB thumbdrive with the same bin files into the Popcorn Hour C-200 USB port and the same component or composite or HDMI cables into the Popcorn Hour C-200 and TV. If these cables have not been removed since you followed steps 1-7, just leave them plugged in.
D. Power up the Popcorn Hour C-200
E. Follow steps number 5-7 above.
F. After the update process completed, power down the unit when the screen showing a message "rebooting in 10 seconds"
G. Remove the jumper.
H. Remove USB thumbdrive, component and/or composite cables.
I. Your Popcorn Hour will is now using 03-04-110531-21-POP-408-000 firmware.
J. Plug in desired connectors (HDMI, Component, Network, optical, etc.) and pat yourself on the back for successfully fixing your Popcorn Hour C-200.

RE: [C-200] How to recover Firmware if something goes wrong
I tried to update firmware on my new unit. Update failed. Tried again with thumbdrive. failed again and locked up unit. Reboots with recovery screen. Tried the recovery procedure. Failed ERR019. Put in jumper and tried again. same FAIL ERR019 and unit locks up. Now it is unuseable. What's the deal?

RE: [C-200] How to recover Firmware if something goes wrong
Werner, very helpful instructions. I tried the above procedure and the firmware recovery completes just fine. During the subsequent reboot however the boot logo shows, but then the c200 stalls into a black screen.

Device is locked. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
dee

RE: [C-200] How to recover Firmware if something goes wrong
Have tried that - no luck. Box becomes unresponsive to all input after showing the boot-up logo. TV recognizes a 1080p signal, but shows nothing but a black screen.

Apparently the above procedure is not a full reset/recover. Any way of wiping the box completely / putting it back to factory settings?

Many thanks,
dee

RE: [C-200] How to recover Firmware if something goes wrong
Am i correct in saying that this procedure only works when using the jumper method ?
Since putting in the usb-stick and then do a cold-boot doesn't work for me.

After thinking about this doesn't sound strange since when doing a normal boot the usb stick is only recognized after a few seconds after the unit is fully powered up.

EDIT:
After reading the op again i have some more questions:
-should the lan and other cables be disconnected ?
-so only a connection to your screen should be attached ?
-can there be multiple screens attached, eg hdmi and composite ?
-hdmi alone should work right ?

EDIT more info after trying :-)
-i had all cables attached just as before
- i use only hdmi so the rest is unanswered
-worked flawlessly

btw: i attached a cable to the uart port for later access for future use

RE: [C-200] How to recover Firmware if something goes wrong
I just had the same result as deeveeo.
I tried method #1, the recovery bin file was loaded into firmware and CRC checked out fine.
When it rebooted, I got the "PopcornHour logo loading..." with the LCD in the front showing the PopcornHour logo too. Then the screen goes to black(still getting a signal via HDMI to the TV).
I tried the remote and every button on the face of the C-200. It's totally unresponsive.

I then tried method #2. The blue recovery screen came up again and it downloaded and installed the recovery bin firmware correctly. But the C-200 boots the same as method #1 into a black screen and locked down.

Please, is there another recovery firmware I can try? Or do I need to RMA the board to get it to work again??

Thanks for your help in advance.

RE: [C-200] How to recover Firmware if something goes wrong
I just solved my own problem.
I downloaded the latest firmware. Then I renamed the 02-01-091113-19-POP-408.bin file to recovery-image.bin and stuck it on a USB stick.
When I did method #2 using the jumper and this USB stick, my C-200 came back from the dead AND now has the latest firmware too!!

I hope this may help others stuck like I was.

Cheers!

RE: [C-200] How to recover Firmware if something goes wrong
Hello,

I tried the procedure - with and without jumper - + the rename of the latest firmware but the problem is still there ...ERR019 after around 12%.

I was happy yesterday ..the update went OK and this morning when I started the C200 I had the blue screen and I am getting stressed with it..

Should you have an idea
please let me know

Thanks
KiirK
