RE: Contest Comments, Concerns, Feedback
How about a link to the videosurf.com API or at least the site for us to experience videosurf? Then an explanation of where to enter and how to enter would be great.

RE: Contest Comments, Concerns, Feedback
Do they need to own a C200?
Do they need to own a A110?
They can develop on a PC so no need for an NMT?

Just helps those that may think it is only for those that own a C200.

Small idea of the skills required, which platform or software etc. may be a good idea?

I was wondering the same thing but I assume PHP will be the right candidate for this? I noticed there were a few examples on how to use the API in PHP.

Anyway, I have the day off tomorrow so I'll start reading about it thenSmile

1) No they don't need to own a A-110 (as it will be based off of the new C-200 Platform). You don't necessarily need to own a C-200 to develop something, although it would be useful for testing purposes? PC is the tool of choice (From what I am told).

2) ROBIG *coughs* and PHP I assume would be the standards of choice.

3) You don't need to incorporate it with Gaya. To my knowledge, you can make it as rich as you need it to be.

4) This is a one-time contest, not a monthly contest. The monthly contest will be discontinued due to lack of interest/submissions (and interest in most cases). More information on that can be found on the announcement threads. If you all have ideas on what a new contest should be I'm all ears.

Again, cool contest Cool!!

But I have some questions:

1. You already told that we don't need to incorporate it with Gaya. But does this mean that the actual browser of the C200 isn't used? Or is it full-blown-CSS-DHTML-JS-aware? Smile

2. If I enter the A-110 contest, can I still enter the C200 contest?

RE: Contest Comments, Concerns, Feedback
Steve,

I think a good idea would be to open the monthly contest up to all user created material.... wether its an msp plugin, or a jukebox skin, a new jukebox, mpd, or some completely new user app. I think it'd help spark more interest, and in general they all help make the PCH a better experience....so its win/win

Pannasonic Plasma 50" -->HK254-->Emotiva xpa-5 & upa-2
A100 w/ 500gb HDD, A200 w/ mn100, c200 w/ 2.5" 250gb
Calm 2.1, YAMJ - Redefined 1.8a skin, Music Jukebox 8
WHS ex490 w/ 2.5tb's

Course you can and indeed you are one of the main reasons we didn't just shut down promptly. There is one last throw of the dice with entry by noon 20 October 2009, get that plugin up and working well.Smile

RE: Contest Comments, Concerns, Feedback
Hi guys,

So I just talked to our engineer guys and they said you basically should create the application like you would any other MSP plugin.

That means interaction with GAYA (My bad?) and all that jazz.

Sorry guys!

-Steve

P.S. Updated to reflect this.

RE: Contest Comments, Concerns, Feedback
Hi all,

nice contest. I have some further questions, though:

Quote:1) You must have a system of categories to be able to sort content.

What's exactly meant with categories?
* Their categories listed at the bottom of their page? The API doesn't seem to offer access to them, does it?
* statically defined search terms like TV Shows, Movies, ...
* parsing their HTML site for categories -> error prone; breaks if their layout is changed
* personal categories -> needs API features to log in to videosurf.com not given at the moment

Quote:Remember this is a design contest! You are coding/creating/making for functionality, User Interface, and “Look/Feel” of the portal.
* Is it correct, that the NMTs are capable of playing these videos without some low level tweaking? Aka "Plays if site embeds the video correctly"?

Quote:1) You will receive the new Popcorn Hour C-200 device for free.
* including BD drive? Big Grin

Thanks in advance
Tycho

Well, I would say create it as possible to the guidelines as you can make it without things breaking. If you can't do it with their API, then you can't do it Tongue.

The NMT "Should". Keyword...we don't know what type of set up you will be doing yet but lets see what you can get created right?

No it doesn't come with BD drive =p

RE: Contest Comments, Concerns, Feedback
Another small question.
In what way should the search results be processed? The API only returns either the Videosurf URL or the URL on the provider page. Will a link to the Videosurf page/provider page suffice?

I'm no engineer, but whatever you can do with the API (limitations and all) just roll with it...I can't give much more info on that! If you can't figure it out, send me a PM and i'll forward it to an engineer.
