RE: Problem Streaming over Gb Network
When I have time I will upload my speed tests here (requires me to stop a lot of processes at home and I'm pretty busy)... I'll start by saying that I do have a smart switching 10/100/1000 16 port switch (model is cortega, probably not very well known outside of Japan), my house is wired with CAT6. Basically I am satisfied... my c200 connects at 1000t, plays movies without any issue (largest size played all the way through mkv 20gb)....
I don't think this thread should die... it's clear that a lot of people dislike the performance of their gigabit c200, and as consumers it is good to let people know what we think. I agree that this device is meant to be a dedicated media player device, it does not have the guts of a PC, this keeps the cost low, as such full gigabit speeds can not be supported. What I do not agree with is that people who can establish a gigabit connection and recieve slower performance than they do at 100baseT.... this is rediculous.... at a bare minimum the performance should be equal to that of 100baseT. Is the argument here that the users gigabit network less capable of handling a gigabit connection than a 100baseT connection, if so what happens on a PC to PC gigabit connection (is the performance better or worse using the same network hardware than at 100baseT)... if the performance of 1000baseT PC to PC is better than or equal to 100baseT PC to PC... then this is a c200 issue... At a bare minimum the 1000baseT connection should perform as quickly as a 100baseT connection. You can get into specific details about filesystem performance, hard disk speeds, lan cable capacities/load, switch performance, bus/cpu/memory bottlenecks to explain differences in performance beyond that of 100baseT I also disagree with the argument that you only really need 100baseT to stream video and anything else is unnecessary... people do more than just stream videos with their lan connection, and many people intentionally bought a gigabit media player. |
