DVD rips stutter over wireless N network - Need advice
This is my setup.
Apple Airport Extreme Dual band (2GHz and 5GHz) wireless N router connected to cable modem (in room 1). QNAP TS-219P NAS connected to gigabit port of the apple router (room 1). Dlink DAP-1522 wireless-N bridge with Gigabit ports connected to the 5GHz band of apple router.(in room 2) PCH-A110 with internal hard drive connected to one of the gigabit ports of the DAP-1522 wireless-n bridge.(room 2) Room 1 and Room 2 are on the same level. When streaming movies (DVD rips to video_ts files)to the A-110 from the NAS using NFS share I get freezes. Same with SMB share. Same movies play fine when copied over to the internal hard drive of the A-110. These are SD movies...no high def content. I don't want to run a hardwired network connection across rooms but will have to if there is no solution to my freezes. Does anyone have any suggestions? |

Unless you are getting a very weak signal or interference then your bridge setup should be enough for SD DVD playback.
try to get a speed reading to see what your connection is like, you are not using the USB port and using ethernet so you should be getting enough to stream almost everything. Moving to Networking for some WiFi network guru to hopefully help. You aren't suffering from disconnections are you. RE: DVD rips stutter over wireless N network - Need advice
I use 5ghz wireless n to stream though a brick wall with no issues (even with 1080p content) via nfs.
My setup: modem ==> router ==> gigabit switch ==>wireless n bridge + video server + other wired/wireless network points In my case I use the netgear gaming bridge system (cant remember the model). I can only suggest that you may want to try to assign the appropriate Qos settings on your airport (if available) to prioritise video traffic as your setup is quite different to mine. I used to have stuttering issues until I did this (previously had other network connections hanging off the router as well as the switch). Hope this helps |

Could have been my wireless bridge (dlink dap-1522). I now have the DLink dap 1522 serving as an Access Point (helped by using the 200 mbps Powerline adaptors) and so far everthing works great. |
