broken lock washers
Just a heads up for anybody installing a harddrive / ROM drive.....When I went to loosen some of the screws securing the DVD drive cage the lock washers broke into pieces. This wasn't due to the factory over tightening as the screws were not that tight. Likely the lock washers were too thin or manufactured improperly.
You wouldn't want any pieces getting lodged in the motherboard and shorting something out so be careful. Craig |

RE: broken lock washers
all of mine were broken. werner ..they are the washers that fit under the head of the screws holding something down.
the washers have a small cut in them where the ends of the cuts are slightly off-canter ... so that when pressured down they prevent the screw from turning out (loosening). the lock washers installed are much too thin and seem to have been made of an inferior metal such as tin or bad aluminum. Here is an example: ![]() i dont know the type of lockwasher used in the c200 .. as they all broke ... but its good you know. (Moderator edit: put the linked image in the post instead) |

RE: broken lock washers
I was dying to know what these washers are but the fear of being laughed was too much. Glad someone beat me to it.
![]() EDIT: Having seen the example above, those things aren't used in computers and the c-200 being a computer basically I would see no need for them. |

RE: broken lock washers
Strange especially for all of them to be broken, actually there are only two arne't there?
I have used mine frequently removing the whole drive enclsoure, replacing it, fitting different devices etc and its been OK. But there will be enough to feed it back to the factory and as people say the last thing you want is a small piece of metal washer around the inside. It's the two screws to the left/front and rear/left of the drive enclosure that have the washers on. RE: broken lock washers
lol
, why are those even inside a computer like environment, imagine one of those break and start rattling and short the motherboard. My motherboard came with red hard plastic/paper ones. metal ? not a good idea.

RE: broken lock washers
Hey guys. This is getting very scary. I wonder if this could have been the cause for one of the shipping delays. Then QA just decided to let them go out the door. I wonder if someone could provide a source for the plastic replacements.

I wonder if someone could provide a source for the plastic replacements. I just left my broken washer out. I've never used or seen lock washers in any of the hundreds of PC's that I've built or worked on. My only concern with not using the lock washer was that the screw extended slightly deeper into my BD drive. I was careful tightening it as I wouldn't want it to go in too far and hit something important. This was not really a big concern, but it's definitely something to be aware of. |

RE: broken lock washers
you do not really need washers inside a computer environment.
You can always google motherboard washers and find out PCH A-200 16GB USB -> HDMI -> Samsung LN46A650 | A200 -> Toslink -> Logitech Z-5500 (Harmony 700) PCH C-200 8GB USB -> HDMI -> Sharp LC46D64U (Harmony 550) Eversion/Whisper skin (custom MOD) + WHS V1 (15TB Q6600/4GB RAM ) -> Mediasonic HR82-SU3S2 (Backup) D-Link DNS 323 for sale |

RE: broken lock washers
Yeah, I has the same issue, about 4 of the 8 broke - hopefully the ones I have left will not loosen. They were mainly the screws on the drive mounts for me, not the bracket.
I was gonna take them all of just as a precaution, but I could not get the regular washer off to remove the lock-washer. -B |
