RE: [REQUEST][SUBS] Subtitles naming managment
In the current RC2, external SRT files are identified using filenames.
The SimpleBD menu (TITLE button on remote) is going to be also available when playing MKV files. Once you press TITLE, there's a submenu and on subtitles... selecting it will give you a list of subtitle tracks. If it's external, it will use the FILENAME so I don't know if this means this request has been granted or not completely as internal Subs still don't identify properly. However I am guilty of being a bit LAX on my encodes so sometimes I fail to fill in the information for subtitle tracks when I encode them to be muxed in the MKV directly. RE: [REQUEST][SUBS] Subtitles naming managment
I'll give it a try when it goes public.
Just to be sure to understand: Are these external SRT handling only supported by MKV files? Any upcoming solution for avi files or other types? RE: [REQUEST][SUBS] Subtitles naming managment
Unfortunately at the moment the SimpleBD menu will only work for MKV as well as BDMV/BD ISO structures.
It's not perfect either because we know external srt files have to have the same filename as the .mkv file for it to be available during playback. This means you can only have 1 external SRT file coz' 2 external SRT files can't have the same filename.. Ex.. Movie.mkv Movie.srt <--- can be identified by SimpleBD menu during playback Movie.german.srt <--- will never be found during playback So as we move forward, I think encoding subtitles internally with the MKV file is the better way so one can have multiple languages in 1 MKV file. We just need a way to identify them during playback, not just "1/10 und". RE: [REQUEST][SUBS] Subtitles naming managment
I think the player should be programmed to pick up multiple external subtitles separated by language codes in the name. Especially for AVI it makes sense, since they can not be muxed in.

Remember also that there's a SUBTITLE button on the remote so it's that part of the firmware that you guys want improvements on. @Dave_D
Going back to your initial post, i think the BDISO Subtitle things are not meant in this thread. As far as i known this thread is about multiple subtitles (08-11-2010 12:02 PM)dc11ab Wrote: For those initiated in the existing possibilities and shortcomings with regards to the NMT's and external subtitles, please help out by updating the wiki pages:This link shows the right direction but unfortunatly there have to be a way switching between the languages while the movie is playing. This is a known (and annoying) limitation, that we have to go to the NMT settings menu and choose another subtitle language, and then it picks up the other subtitle file.
