Bluray playback issues
I still have an issue playing all my bluray movies even after reading all the threads on this subject. I got my PCH on April 15th.
First I have the latest firmware (16 april) installed and using a ReadyNAS NV+ via NFS for streaming. I have converted all my HD-DVD movies with EVODEMUX to get the video, audio and subtitles, convert audio with eac3to and remux with TSMuxer into a ts file. They all work great and I can move around the movie using the number buttons (10%, 20%, etc...). No stutter, no lost of audio, perfect synchronization. The problem is with the bluray where the audio (either DTS or AC3) will stop about 5-10 seconds after the start of the movie (28 days later or DH2) or I lose audio after a percentage jump (eg 30%) for POC3 and DH4. I get a fair amount of stutter on 28 days later as well after a jump. All those movies have HP@L4.1 profiles. I first demux the main m2ts files to extract the video, audio (2) and subs (2). I remux the video and the two audios with TSMuxer (v1.7.6b) using the VBR setting max=55000 and min=0. I also create 2 srt files and copy them to the PCH (I understand that I can only access one subtitle - that's fine). Several people are saying they can play those profiles just fine on PCH with NFS without stutter or losing audio.. My problem is obviously a bandwidth issue but I cannot tell if the bottleneck is the nfs connection or the PCH itself (too much bandwidth in the ts file). I am curious to know what others are using as setting when creating the ts file with TSMuxer so that their bluray L4.1 profiles can play on the PCH. If my ts is OK then I will have to hack away at the NAS-PCH NFS connection... Please also confirm that you do not lose audio after a jump in the movie... I tried both with a gigabit switch and a regular 10/100 switch between the NAS and PCH with no difference in performance. Jumbo frames are off. I have tried to reduce the max bitrate to 35000 or even 25000 but I do not see a difference in playback (still lost audio and stutter) or image quality. I get a warning VBV buffer overflow from TSMuxer when I reduce the max bitrate but I have no idea what it does in that situation. Anyone knows? BTW, in my experience I have less trouble extracting the DTS core from DTS-HD using TSMuxer instead of eac3to on bluray movies. eac3to always warn about delay issues and having to use delaycut... Thanks for any suggestions or comments, |

You don't have to demux any video for native BluRay unless they have seamless branching + AVC so that's one step you can eliminate. ALL raw BluRay 1080p streams play fine from iNTERNAL HDD including using time seek and the 0-9 keys with AC3/DTS/(L)PCM so it's your network that needs tweaking. I myself have problems playing DTS/(L)PCM TS/M2TS over my network as well. Make BluRay processing easy on yourself:
