whats the best vedio codec supported by NMT (egreat m34a)

Hello all,

Sorry i am new to this arena, so i am not familiar with different codecs.

I got lot of vedio files in .flv (downloaded from youtube) and would like to know which format i should convert them so that i can watch it via my Egreat M34A.

mkv is pretty versatile and easy to use. makemkv is a simple program just not sure if it'll deal with .flv

thanks Giboo, so i need to try makemkv and see whether it accepts .flv files.

Yes, there are tons of answers to that question

Xvid4psp is an easy (and free) tool to convert almost anything to alot of different formats

for low quality youtube flv files Id probably just go for a simple conversion to xvid and mp3 in avi
Simply replace the parameters in the guide of mkv / h264 / ac3, to avi / xvid / mp3 in reasonable bitrates

i tried the example settings given in authers page, but without any luck.

in the nmt player i enable hdmi audio and then tried all different audio combination (pcm, digital).

please somebody help me to resolve this. this is real important as we cannot access the youtube from nmt. so i am downloading the .flv files and then trying to convert them to a format so that nmt will play.

The avi you created should play just fine.

But if you get audio or not depends on what its connected to and what settings you select
So what are your egreat connected to ? HDMI to what ? is HDMI the only connection used ?

If connected with HDMI only to a TV, the TV will not decode AC3 audio, and thus you need to select analog pcm for AC3/DD audio in the NMT
If connected with HDMI to a HDMI receiver then this should decode AC3 audio, and thus you need to select RAW for AC3/DD audio in the NMT

On a sidenote I notice that the FLV contains AVC video and AAC audio, both are playable by the NMT, so basically you would not need to reencode neither video nor audio from this FLV, you just need to remux (repackage) to a compatible container like MKV or MP4 - this way the process is faster and you keep original quality
In Xvid4psp just select format mkv or mp4, and select "Copy" both for video and audio

first of all lot of thanks to you guys... so quick response with detail information.

OK my NMT/TV and dvd player setup is as follows,

I connected NMT to TV via HDMI. In NMT audio setup i have enable HDMI audio, and selected all the audio formats to analogue PCM.
I also connected the audio from NMT composite to my DVD player.

so i did not hear sound from either of them. but when played vedio via youtube/ some of the avi files directly downloaded from the internet is working. but not the one i did the encoding.

now going back to your second point, which aid that i only needs to do a remux to get the file working.
sorry i cant find a option to select copy.. please help me on this.
(i can select the file, format, vedio encoding, audio encoding...)

I notice you selected
audio: mp3 cbr 128k

but the audio in the avi you produced are reported to be
Format : AC-3

So looks like maybe the header is wrong for the audiotype

Just select
format: mkv
video: copy (scroll down to the buttom of the list)
audio: copy (scroll down to the buttom of the list)

just something to try here, not as clued up as these guys on the correct containers etc but know my way around tv/amp/dvd connections.

a possible solution

i noticed you connected your m34 to your dvd player via composite (rca connection) take those out of your dvd player as dvd is only an output device as is all the a/v connections on the back of m34.

set your m34 to
hdmi audio -on
surround mode -stereo
dts -pcm
dolby digital -pcm
aac -pcm
wma -pcm

***dont forget to save***

if that doesnt work try and connect the rca connection into a different input on your tv, play your video via your hdmi input then change the tv to the rca input, you will get no picture but if the audio is there ditch the hdmi and run component for video (red green blue rca)***again dont forget to change video settings and save***. Component is a very acceptable solution if it works.

Hi,

I did exactly what you said for remux, however Xvid4PSP (version 5 latest) but it hangs after showing it had completed 99.9%. i tried more than one time and it did not work.

so are there any good tool which i can use to do the remuxing.
