[A-110] Reproducible unable to browse shares with many sub folders/files
hi,

i think i found a serious bug in the pch a-110.
given the following:

  1. a nfs share at a linux host with path /data/videos
  2. configured the share in the pch as Videos
  3. the share has several sub folders, e.g. DVDs, Movies, Jukebox ...

i'm able to browse all these folders through the tv ui without any problem except these two: Movies, Jukebox. the Jukebox folder contains all the files created by YAMJ and the Movies folder contains abount 800 sub folders. every time i select one of these folder, the pch says No data found.

i checked at least 100 times all the security settings at the filesystem at the linux host as well as recreated the share at the linux host, reconfigured it in the pch, rebooted the pch, ... a docent times. nothing helped.

then i installed the telnet daemon and here's the interesting part. once i run:
Code:
ls -al /opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/NETWORK_SHARE/Videos/Movies/
i'm able to browse the Movies folder. When i then select a movie to play and stop it after a while, the ui does not show any folder at all anymore. browsing back to the root of the share (Videos) and reselecting Movies, only the folder that contains the movie played right bevore is shown.

also interesting is the fact that when i load a playlist file over a http service that points to a movie file in the Videos/Movies folder, pch is able to find it and to play the movie also it reporst "no data found" when i try to browse it in the tv ui.

from my point of view this really looks like a bug and it makes the pch more or less useless for me.

can someone of you syabas people take a look to this issue, please? in order to be able to use the pch for me this issue needs to be solved.

greez,

dialsc

Yes it is true. I still have the problem, but there's no interest from the manufaturer to resolve the problem.

As a customer I am not willing to spend time on trying to find out what is the problem, that should be done by the manufaturer. I buy a box that shall work.

But it's nice to see you have taken the time to experiment a bit. Maybe someone wakes up this time.

I cannot say what type of name or folder that are empty, but using NFS don't show the files in all folders, that is a bug, or at least if it is not, we all should be warned if there's folder names we cannot use.!

RE: [A-110] Reproducible unable to browse shares with many sub folders/files
i have figured out that it has nothing to do, as vinylman guessed, with an "unalowed" folder name. i splittet the content of the Movie folder into two folders and now the pch can read the content.

one interesting thing on that. i've created a second folder, let's call it Movies 2 an moved about the half of the content of the movies folder into this new one. afterwards the pch was still not able to show the content of the original movies folder. after i moved the content from the original movies folder to a third folder, e.g. Movies 3, the pch was able to present the content.

allthough this would be a workaround i'm not willing to go on this way as it brakes my storage strategy and i think we can expact that a linux based gadget is able to browse the content of a folder that's based on a nfs file system.

do you syabas people minde fixing this bug, please?

I have no HDD inside at all :-) I am browsing files on a Synlogy NAS 207+ and experience the same. I would be surprised if a change of the HDD inside the PCH will make any difference. Especially for me since I have no internal drive to change :-)

i would be supprised, too Big Grin i told them that it does not make any difference if there is a hdd in or not. i'm accessing a nfs share of my hand made nas. it is not the first linux server i've set up and it is not the only share. considering all the tests, changes and whatever else i've done so far to isolate the problem there is only one conclusion left. it is a bug in the pch.

update:

January 11, 2010: QA replied this isn't a bug. Are you purchased the PCH from our reseller? If yes please get the RMA support from our reseller. Let us know if they do not support you. May I know which is your reseller. Thank you.

Huh

So we can just send in our boxes for repair, or what do they say?

This sounds like something pc side. I have a folder that has over 5000 sub folders and the pch loads its just fine.

What are you using to store the files. Is it something like netapp. A full distro?

No PC here, I have activated NFS on my Synology DS. And it is the PCH only that don't find all files or subfolders. From my experience, the Synology DS is very reliable.

Are you using NFS to access it from other devices or samba?
