Ping Syabas: example video code
Hi Syabas,
In the stickied user apps thread you mentioned a plan to release some code demonstrating how to use the video hardware. Is that still the plan? Any rough E.T.A.? I promise to be patient, but I'd like to know if you're still planning to do it. Thanks! |

I don't think Syabas said they were going to show us how to use the hardware, they said they were going to show use how to use the player. If you look in the source code for mvpmc discussed hre
http://www.networkedmediatank.com/viewtopic.php?t=2669 There is a complete basic a/v player using DirectFB with mono and amp_test for DVD. That being said now that Dune is using the platform and shifting from the NMT's standard gaya/mono interface http://www.dune-hd.com/firmware/rushd/en...tures.html I'd love to Syabas release something we can more so we really start to take advantage of what is really an amazing little box. I guess I understood their offer differently. The quote is:
Quote:As for Item 3 (Media playback), what Syabas can do is to write a sample apps that demonstrate how to use this and release to public. I understood that to mean an app that does in-process playback, not one that calls out to mono. Maybe Syabas can clarify. I'm definitely aware of the mvpmc project -- I've got the git repo cloned -- and I'm waiting with bated breath for the day it can be act as a mythtv frontend with commercial skip and live TV streaming. However, I wonder if that's going to be possible without either a) tweaks to mono by Syabas or b) information from Syabas on how to build a mono replacement. (Am I correct in my understanding that the mvpmc port uses mono for playback or have you guys got something more impressive?) So that's another reason I'd like to hear some word from Syabas on the matter. Basically, this PCH/iStar/NMT/whatever platform could turn into the ultimate micro-HTPC if Syabas gives the community what it needs. Now this alternative Dune FW looks kinda interesting. Can it be installed on a PCH? |

No new tricks with mvpmc sorry.
As for the Dune software I think someone has to figure out the "DUNE FIRMWARE FILE" format1 and "DUNE FIRMWARE DATA" first. Martin |

At first I thought this was homebrew firmware but it looks like it's made by the Dune HD people as an alternative to the NMT firmware. More info here:

This firmware offers a lot of features missing from the official one. Better zoom, aspect, and overscan controls. More data from the "info" button. MKV/VC1, etc. I think it's a wise move on their part since all of these NMT players are too similar for consumers to decide on anything but price.

Indeed, though it means they're not likely to help us install it on our PCHs.

Well, nothing yet. Taking a look at their firmware, no problems pulling out the rom1fs, and linux kernel, but the rootfs has JFIF in it, which is amusing. Maybe you are allowed to specify a logo at boot.

nah, the vmlinux is just the kernel, the rootfs SHOULD be at 00600200. Just got to work out why it starts with JFIF, and not the usual tgz ($1f $08)

Some of the features in this look good!
More usable/convenient file browser: All available media-sources/folders/files are represented as a single unified tree. No need to do an extra step of choosing video/audio/photo/other file type. Fast and convenient navigation across folders. This is one of the things that annoy me is having to select media types sources, its much easier to just browse through the directory tree and if I select a music file it plays it, a movie file it plays, or if for some reason it doesn't know what the file is it just displays a relevent message. |

Going back on-topic, it would be nice to have a reply from Syabas to the original question... Anybody paying attention?

ok, I pulled the firmware apart.. hard up for time lately... anyway, I'll try their GUI tonight if it wants to run. If its better, we could organise a system to donate money for its development
