Websites can twist and spin words to say what ever they want. Unless a Syabas employee mentions what the new GUI does on this forum all other sources are just speculation, not actual facts.

I expect no less from the future GUI. If it's not going to be a full featured movie/music/photo jukebox then it already failed for me.

RE: [PREVIEW] C-200/A-200 Rich UI (under development)
Here is what the website say about the new GUI, so where exactly does it say that the GUI will do what YAMJ does without the need of a PC for NMTs?

Quote:2. New Interface: Flash-based, with a video jukebox--and a web brower?

The new Flash-based interface looks very promising. Can you tell us a little bit more about it? For example, will the video section include a video jukebox features similar to YAMJ? And if it will include this feature, will users need to run an app on a PC first, or will the device itself be able to generate the jukebox?

The Flash-based interface for PopcornHour, called Rich UI, is a combination of three parts, a data aggregator, a standardized database and a graphical presentation. We're locking down the database section so that users can mix and match data aggregators and presentations to fit their preferences.

For example, if the default UI isn't something you like and you would rather have something done by YAMJ, then you can install that on the box instead. Or if you have a better online database to pull metadata from, something with local movie information, then you can change that out as well. We've built Popcorn Hour for the hobbyist and enthusiast who wants to customize their experience and has the expertise to do so.

Notice how the response completely ignores this part of the question
Quote:or will the device itself be able to generate the jukebox?

Quote:From what we've read on various forums and heard from own readers, we get the impression that the YAMJ project is one of the biggest players in the NMT world. The app was developed by an NMT user, Stuart Boston, along with some others, rather than your company. A lot of users get confused about the difference between YAMJ and NMT and think that all NMTs come with YAMJ ready to go. Why don't you explore this avenue more, and perhaps work with Stuart to help integrate this feature? Your team could help develop a GUI to configure and use YAMJ, for instance, or even include YAMJ in the basic NMT set-up?

Popcorn Hour is a community-driven project. We're constantly in touch with our most active users via our forums. We have spoken with the YAMJ creators as well as other movie jukebox creators and are working with them to create a standardized database. That way their presentations and aggregators can work with ours, or other user-generated ones. The new Rich UI will run entirely on the box, without the need for a PC to always run the script

Again, they do not exactly say the GUI will do what YAMJ does, they just say the new GUI will run entirely from the box, all that is mentioned in relation to a jukebox is a database which is for data. Again avoiding the question.

So unless im missing something, where does it say that the new GUI will do what YAMJ does without the need for a PC?Huh

? Right there. Were it says "The new Rich UI will run entirely on the box, without the need for a PC to always run the script" Correct me if im wrong. anyway if you would still need a pc to run it than whats the point that already exists.

RE: [PREVIEW] C-200/A-200 Rich UI (under development)
That says GUI, it does not say jukebox or any specific words pointing to the video interface. Notice how they left that entire interview a gray area. And the never specify if the GUI they are talking about is for the Popbox or the NMT models. So in total the interview provided information for something about nothing Angle.

Right now everything about the GUI is speculation until a Syabas employee confirms it or it is shown in the beta "see whats being worked on thread"

So everyones under the assumption that the new GUI will do what YAMJ does without the need of a PC? Huh

Where exactly did a Syabas employee state this is what the GUI going to be for the NMT products?Huh

Come on; you're nit picking here mate. Undecided It clearly all ALLUDES more to working without a PC though many users possibly only have small drives and will need that option or some extrnal NAS whatever. The database is presumably for indexing the metadata and paths to the files regardless of where the files are going to be. It sure aint gonna hold the films.

The unit needs to hold the films as far as I'm concerned, and they can be shared out from there too, to others in the house. I'm happy with that bit of my integration so far, and means I can switch the PCs off.

Many of us want a simple solution that works without weeks of configuration. Like a DigiRecorder, or DVD Recorder. Hard to believe but you plug it in, has menus, and does what you ask without any fuss. Something that doesn't need a degree in xml, linux, networking with various shares and protocols. That way it'll get to the mass market and we'll all benefit. Big Grin

And hopefully you too will be able to stop spending so much of your time testing and will get the fruit of your labour. I appreciate the work all you beta testers have done in getting the kit to where it is, but we've got to look to the next phase.
