A200 Thermal Images
This is reserved for the Thermal Image batch from the A200. There will be 4 sets of images.

1. The fan And no HD. playing a 1080p movie.
2. Fan and 1tb HD playing 1080p movie from drive
3. No fan and no HD playing 1080p movie
4. 1TB drive and no fan play 1080p movie from drive.

Also for test sake Im doing 30 minute watches. As i dont have time to watch a whole movie. And after 30 min it should be at max

I might do one streaming movie and one ftp transfer but we will see how time goes.

And a picture of the gear

RE: A200 Thermal Images
Really looking forward to these. I can see them becoming very popular along with fan and case mods.

I heard that only with a 3.5" HDD is the fan necessary lets see how that stacks up with your snaps.

A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI
CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407

RE: A200 Thermal Images
If it runs cool enough when playing from the network or say USB w/o a fan and no HDD then that's a big leap. SSD could be a possible alternative if a 2.5" is too hot.

Have you looked at a formatted HDD yet, does it have 4 or 3 partitions?

RE: A200 Thermal Images
Can the fan be slowed down adding a resitor in the path?
A slow revolving fan may be enough when no disc is used and be almost silent

RE: A200 Thermal Images
Fans are not always quieter if slower, some fans need a minimum speed.

The fan is of this kind although not the same shape and I havent checked the fittings:-

Havent looked at the mounting of it to the chip yet but a heatsink with no HDD or a 2.5" HDD is what i'm thinking.

RE: A200 Thermal Images
I WOULD NOT RUN WITHOUT A FAN AND A HARDDRIVE OF ANY SORT OF LOOKING AT NO FAN AND NO HD IMAGES.

i WILL TRY TO CHECK WITH A 2.5" GREEN OR SOMETHING OF LOW HEAT BUT I THINK IT WILL BE PUSHING THE LIMITS.

RE: A200 Thermal Images
Oh dear that would explain the lack of reply when asking for confirmation on whether it is possible to run w/o a fan if no HDD or a 2.5" fitted.

This looks like the A200 will be the first NMT in my house that will not be on 24/7 due to the fan noise. It will be going in the lounge. Those needing a none fan 8643 NMT look like having to go for the C200.

RE: A200 Thermal Images
I will try to test with a 2.5" and see what happens but pushing 170f is bad lol. Maybe a better heatsink would fix the problem. But im not so sure. I will post the rest of the results tomorrow.

Hmmmmm, what happens when liquid plastic meets with printed circuit board? Will it be a match made in heaven? Huh

C-200, A-110 both playing from a DIY Linux Raid 5 server.

Remuxes, Captures and Transcodes done on a desktop running;
Win7, Intel i7 hexacore processor with 24 GB ram, WD VR OS drive and a WD Black 2 TB data drive.

RE: A200 Thermal Images
Let me just say firstly, I'm a cooling fanatic!!!

The best thing you guys did was to introduce a Fan into your A200, it was ultimately the deal breaker up against the C200, oh and that the power supply is external from the main unit.

Just a few questions, please help with answers...

1. Can the fan speed be adjusted? I'll go for max setting if I have a choice.
2. Is it easy to swap the fan out if it fails?
3. Any way to upgrade to a more powerful?

I'll be running a 2.5" in this baby, can't wait to get it.

Thanks guys.

RE: A200 Thermal Images
After further thinking. Im going to test how much heat is made during standby. IE no hard drive. No running video or anything just the fan unplugged in standby. And i will post the images of fan/hd running today when i get home

RE: A200 Thermal Images
Its a standard processor fan, easily upgradable... you can't think they didn't test it with both size HD's installed...
I'm sure the fan is capable of normal opperation, regardless - its likely a standard pin mounting config for a processor fan....

Upgrade to a better quality quieter fan if you have a need for an internal HD
