x264 encoding
Hi,

I am in the process of encoding my DVD library to x264 files. Have done a few tests with different software and found the StaxRip fit my needs in the best way.

But.... I´m not so experienced with x264 encoding. Below is a MediaInfo from one of my encodes, can someone that knows more about this have a look at it and see if I am using the optimal settings or if I should changes something to get even better quality.

Video

RE: x264 encoding
putting in a MediaInfo of the source would help in determining if you should make changes... do one on the largest VOB file

PCH-A100/C-200/A200 500GB EXT3 HD--HDMIv1.3--Onkyo TX-SR507--HDMIv1.3--Panasonic TX-P46S10
10 x 1TB USB WD Elements EXT3 + 4 x 1.5TB USB Samsung NTFS

The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box

RE: x264 encoding
For most of my DVD transcodes, I will upscale to 720p so bad hardware real-time scalers don't look as bad going up to 1080p. It also allows the encoder more flexibility since there are more macro blocks to work with. The final size for the same constant quality settings isn't much larger and I think it looks much better.

I'll also convert back to square pixels and reverse the 3:2 pulldown (for DVD movies) in the process.
