RE: pc turn off or on 24/7 what's best
I've never had issues with hard drives whether I leave them on 24/7/365, or have them spin up and down several times a day. In the 90's and early 2000's I always ran my PCs 24/7. But now with electrcity rates so much higher, I have my systems go into standby two or three times a day to save electricty. Plus they come up from standby in seconds anyway. I only use them a few hours a day, so there is no need for me to constantly draw 2K watts from all my systems if I don't need to.
Plus the electrcity rates keep going up and up every year.

RE: pc turn off or on 24/7 what's best
I run mine 24/7 as it does more than just provide media to the PCH. if it were just doing that I would take the same stance as 'aaronwt', resume from sleep states is now so rapid you hardly notice a delay.

RE: pc turn off or on 24/7 what's best
It all depends on the running temperature of components.
If cooling maintains CPU, HDD and mainboard temperature in the lower regions of the operational range, leaving it on 24/7 is better for the hardware.
The temperature can go up overtime by accumulation of dust around the cooling ribs so keep an eye on that.
Green options can lower power consumption and heat production significantly...

The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box

RE: pc turn off or on 24/7 what's best
I use to leave my computer on 24/7 but all that stopped when i got a WHS.

The server now stays on 24/7 the drives usually run cool around 35c no no big deal there.

You can leave it on 24/7 as long as the components overheat.

From an environmental point of view, you should switch it off. If you don;t care about the environment then leave it on.

Either way, your equipment will be fine.
