Wink Windows 7 fixes for SMB network problems
Many people have upgraded to Windows 7 and suddenly found their Popcorn Hour no longer works properly. It worked fine with Vista and now it can't see the PC with Windows 7. There are many threads posting probable solutions and if you look long enough you will find something that might works like I did. I found my solution on the thread I have linked here click the link to read if you like. You have to read quite a bit down to find the solution so instead I will save you from all that and just post the solution here below:

Sign in as Administrator or someone with Administrative Privileges
Click the start button or Orb
go to and click "Control Panel"
locate "Programs" and click on "Uninstall a Program" (if in large icons view click on "Programs and Features")
Scroll down to "Windows Live Sign-in Assistant" and click once
Locate "Uninstall" button near top and select
Select "Yes" when asked if you are sure you want to completely remove
Restart computer as suggested
After computer restarts turn your Popcorn Hour on and it should now see shared folders on your Windows 7 PC.

Windows Live Sign-in Assistant seems to block SMB and NFS shares for some reason. However, once uninstalling Windows Live Sign-in Assistant everything works on the Popcorn Hour.

This worked for me so hopefully it will for you too Big Grin

RE: Windows 7 fix, Popcorn Hour can't see PC share. PROBLEM SOLVED!!
Here's another theory which I have found solves my W7 PC's losing connections:-

Realtek NIC:
Go into your network and connection sharing and click on change adapter settings. Go to the properties of the network card in question and open properties, then configure for the card. Go to the advanced tab and set Receive Side Scaling to disabled.
Atheros NIC:
There's no "Receieve Side Scaling" option in my Advaced tab settings.
There is, however, "Task Offload" - which by googling I found might be the problem when it's On.

RE: Windows 7 fix, Popcorn Hour can't see PC share. PROBLEM SOLVED!!
I find this a bit hard to believe as i have been on Windows 7 X64 since the summer and never had an issue with Live sign in assistant and PCH able to see the shares on the computer. But i guess what ever solves the problem.

RE: Windows 7 fixes for SMB network problems
I never had a problem either until I installed W7 on my last PC so that all my networked PC's run W7.

Don't have a problem streaming to/from the PCH. My problem is losing my internet connection which happens about every 6 hours. Now I have disabled the 'Receive Side Scaling' option I havent lost my connection for 48 hours. Really hoping it has fixed it.

I guess drivers are to blame here, its always the case with a new OS.

Well nothing left to do but gather all troubleshooting fixes for W7 with PCH shares and add them to the WIKI Big Grin

I never expected a problem when I upgraded to Windows 7 Premium 64-bit because everything worked just fine in Vista Premium 64-bit. When I discovered the issue I soon researched that many people have had the same issue who have posted questions on what should be done to fix the problem though not specific about Windows 7 version or bit used. I visited the Popcornhour.com site to see if they were aware of the issue with Windows 7. Under the support tab listed in under FAQ for the A110 I found a post for a fix so they are aware of the problem. You will need to select "View All" to see all the FAQ's since it only list a few at first glance. The FAQ is called "Windows 7 SMB Sharing Setup" which will take you to this NMT site. After following the instructions as far as I could before I had to stop because my version "Windows 7 Premium 64-bit" does not come with "Local Security Settings" that can be edited. It appears that Microsoft only includes "Local Security Settings" with Windows 7 Professional, and Ultimate Versions. Not wanting to spend an additional $89.95 via Windows Anytime Upgrade I search further for a fix. I don't expect everyone to have had problems with Windows 7 but for those who do I thought it would be helpful to show them what worked for me with an easy how-to. I don't claim to have invented the fix but instead share what I discovered through research with links to the original posts and sites I used. It worked for me and maybe it can work for others. RE: Windows 7 fixes for SMB network problems
Interesting , I have Ultimate and always check the setting you refer to is enabled. Never had a problem so it backs up to some extent the assertion.
Definitely seems to have fixed my sharing issue with the connection dropping though.Smile

Your welcome, I thought this might help. Sometimes fixes get so buried in threads they need to be brought back to the top to be seen again. I hope that Popcorn Hour releases an update that will fixes the problem too since they are aware of it. That link Popcorn Hour posted only works for Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate which have more advanced settings tools.

RE: Windows 7 fixes for SMB network problems
Hi,
I hade the same problems and tried all of the fixes above. Only after looking inthe logs on my Windows 7 pc did I see the error 2017, and a couple of registry settings later, it was all working perfectly.
Have a look at http://www.adfrad.com/2010/03/popcorn-ho...ndows.html for the full grizzly story and the registry changes.

RE: Windows 7 fixes for SMB network problems
I initially had some "fun" getting the A100 to "see" my shared folders in W7 Ultimate X64.
I just tell W7 to share the video folders to "everyone" and change the 128 bit encryption to the 40-56 bit encryption. Haven't really spent time to figure out if both options are needed to make it work...I suspect only the 128bit encryption needs to be disabled. But, there you have it anyways! Smile

Equipment: A400, C200 with a LG CH08LS10 BD drive installed, Onkyo 905 receiver(v1.08FW), Panasonic PX80 42" TV, JVC DLA HD1 projector, HiVision 110" tabtension screen(darn cheap). All connected using HDMI cables and running through the AV receiver and content is streamed over LAN from PC.

In Windows 7 Right Click on My Computer and select properties to open System Properties. Open Device Manager. In Device Manager go to your Network Adapter and double click it to open it's properties. Go to the Power Management tab and make sure all boxes are unchecked.

That is why you keep loosing your internet connection. You have Power Management options Enabled for your Network Adapter.

RE: Windows 7 fixes for SMB network problems
I have not lost my connection since the side scaling was unchecked however I did check the power saving option and it was enabled. So I have now disabled it and am debating whether or not I should enable side scaling. Suppose i'll have to read whether its beneficial or not.
