A200 Bit Torrent Performance Issues
Whenever I run my bit torrent service on my A200, the performance of the 2 other PCs on my WLAN drops to an almost unusable level. I have the folowing:
- a cable modem - Linksys WRV54G wireless router * the A200 is connected via direct ethernet cable * 2 notebooks connected wireless - I have configured the A200 Network setting for a static IP address, (validated unique) * I entered my router's address as the default gateway (192.168.1.1) * my subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 - All of the other NMT applications are turned off on my A200 Are these settings correct? Are there other settings that I need to check? If correct, is there a way that I can limit the amount of bandwidth the A200 is taking? Also, this didn't seem to be a problem until I installed the most recent upgrade to the NMT firmware and NMT apps (Feb 24 release) |

RE: A200 Bit Torrent Performance Issues
Yes you can limit the bandwidth the torrent service uses...
From the main screen of the torrent service look at the upper right side... - "Setting" will take you to another menu where you can enter the bandwidth limits you want. - "Scheduler" is even better as you can set times in the day you want to throttle down the torrent speed. |

I am only getting/receving under 100 kbps from the the down/upload of the torrents yet the PC performance is crawling. I was wondering if there were problems with how my network was setup and I had the correct parameters there. |

RE: A200 Bit Torrent Performance Issues
The usual culprit is your upload bandwidth. (not download). You need to make sure this is less than about 70-80% of your available upload bandwidth. The upload is usually far smaller than the download which is why your network is choking. To check this you need to look at you ISP connection package or your router/modem connection information. If looking on ISP website you maky have to dig around to find the value. If you are on ADSL rather than cable, you should also check your modem.

check you real speed here http://www.speedtest.net
dont seed more than 50% of upload and limit downloads to 50% also during those hours that you might be using the other PC's. limit the amount of seed session so each is over 50KB/s PCH-A100/A210/C200/A400 500GB EXT3 HDD<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10 13 NTFS USB drives on 3 hubs attached to the A300, 3 Seagate blackarmour NAS 3TB The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box |

RE: A200 Bit Torrent Performance Issues
You dont want to make it too low or this will slow down your torrent download speed. Other peers will think you are slow, so will not speak to you as much. You only need to give enough space for your other computers to have a little upload bandwidth.
Find out the figure , and halve it as suggested. If you find that is OK, nudge it up a bit more, or leave it. Oversight: Jukebox | FeedTime: Automatic nzbs |
