RE: A200 - fanless metal case from 3rd party
If it's not going to make them any money at 20 euros then it won't be released. It's that simple isn't it.

Still can't see how a player that costs 179 euros in the EU from a reseller will cost as much as the C200 which is 299 euros if the case were to cost more than 20 euros plus shipping. That's 120 euros difference. So there's still plenty left before it would approach the price of the C-200.

What the actual comparable should be is the HDX-BD1 at around 259 euros. So that leaves 80 euros difference. A nice case and shipping for less than 50 euros still makes it very attractive to me. I'd happily pay up to 35 euros or 50 euros (inc shipping).

CAT6 Wired Network: TV Panasonic TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407

But the HDX-BD1 has full BD menus while the A200 doesn't.

And?

A BD license costs $8 last time we saw. There is no direct comparable in terms of a BD license but there again the BD-1 won't have the benefit of Syabas's firmware and NMT Apps which would cost far more than $8.

RE: A200 - fanless metal case from 3rd party
I do like the idee of a metal case.
I don't like the cylinder shape at the front. just make it straight/flat. no fancy details please.
And I do miss some vent holes for the harddisk.

RE: A200 - fanless metal case from 3rd party
a piece of metal is not as good as a heat pipe. It needs something like a CPU heat pipe attaching to the side and still needs vent holes similar to the extremer.

Notice how the extermer has small slits on the top and bottom so the unit can be placed vertically and horizontaly and still be cooled.

RE: A200 - fanless metal case from 3rd party
I must say it looks good.

Since most computer cases that are worth buying start at about $50.00 I don't see it being cheaper than that.

So that brings the total price to $229.00 at that rate.

I just think its lame having to go do this after you buy it..

Why cant they just put it in the popbox case and badge it A-200?

With a solid metal casing it doesn't need any fancy heat pipes and even less so vents. The L shaped piece of metal connected to the case will keep the cpu cooler than on the C-200 (this is not a 65Watts TDP PC cpu!).

A hard disk might be an issue though, that will need a thermal pad that keeps it in contact with the casing too, but that should be an optional extra since not everyone uses a hard disk (I don't).

Computer cases are way larger, this is even smaller than an average mini-ITX case!

Yes, but just because something is small doesn't mean its cheaper. Look at where decent micro-atx cases start at price wise.

I've been looking at building a nvidia ion nettop and a decent built cases starts at $40.00.

True but $40 (assuming US) is 28 Euros, and with solid metal cases like this one the cost is mostly any extra drilling of vents and holes, since the sides are just long ready-made slats that only need to be cut to measure, same for the top and bottom, only the front has one whole and the back several, but I imagin the back is made of thin sheet metal, not thick solid metal like the other parts.
So for a simple case like this one there isn't a lot of manufacturing involved (which is what would increase the cost).

Very true, but people don't go in the business of making and selling things for zero to little profit. I can see it being cheap, but I guess we will just have to wait and see.
