RE: Music Player Daemon (MPD) 2010-04-04 v0.15.9
How i did it - add a network share on the pch pointing to the network location of your music ... i called it .. MUSIC

Edit mpd.conf and set music_directory to the MUSIC share as the pch "sees" it - eg:

music_directory "/opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/NETWORK_SHARE/MUSIC"

Rebuild the mdp database and you're done!

RE: Music Player Daemon (MPD) 2010-04-04 v0.15.9
Thanks for your input. Here's is what I have done so far:

1. Created a share on my PCH called "XBMC" that points to my Music files held on a network drive.

2. Used CSI to install the following
  • Drop Bear 0.52-3
  • Telnetd 1.14.1
  • mpd 20100405-0.15.9
  • mpdAudioPlugin 20100405-0.15.9

3. Accessed the PCD Hard Drive using WinSCP and edited the mpd.conf file in /Apps/mpd/etc to read:
Code:
music_directory        "/opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/NETWORK_SHARE/XBMC"

4. Installed Firefox Minion and connected to the server using the IP Address of the PCH and port 6600.

5. Clicked the button that says "Update Database" and..........

....Nothing happens Angry

Can you see where I have gone wrong?

RE: Music Player Daemon (MPD) 2010-04-04 v0.15.9
I installed mine months ago and at the time the versions on CSI were not the latest ... so i followed the instructions on the 1st post to install - now this might not be needed anymore!

Anyway - what you're doing seems correct. Before you rebuild the database make sure the network path is mounted by pch ... so basically click on it from the a110 main menu ... it will take a while (might even give you an error after a long wait) but you should be able to see your files from the XMBC mount. Only then you should try the rebuild.

I don't normally use minion to update ... so can't say for sure - what i do is telnet to the pch's ip ... go to the /apps/mpd directory ... delete the database file then issue a ./daemon.sh stop and ./daemon.sh start ... this will take a while and then a new db file is created.

You can monitor/delete the database file easily using windows explorer!

Don't forget that building the database can take a very long time (or not at all happen because MPD runs into an error).
If you get the idea that it's not working, check the MPD log. Using telnet, cd to the /share/Apps/MPD/var/log/ directory and check the mpd file.

Also, I may have gotten 0.16 to work!
I need to thoroughly test it before turning it into a CSI package first. So, experienced users can grab it here. They're the executable & library files, as well as the modified config file. "format field was added to the output plugin block", might be mandatory (although I think it selects a default of "44100:16:2", but might be wrong). As usual, make a backup of your existing MPD folder, delete the database and overwrite the existing files with the ones in the rar.

Note that I've just gotten it to work.
If all is well, an easier to install CSI package will be made.
If you download this, please report back on what works and what doesn't work. Things like FLAC, Streams, 24-bit support, etc.

Something appears to go wrong with the new ipv6 addressing

Code:
Client mpc already installed...
Starting mpd...
Failed to bind to '[::]:6600': Failed to create socket: Address family not supported by protocol

In the mpd.conf bind_to_address has as value "any"

When you compile a new mpd 0.16 could you enable WAV-support please?

RE: Music Player Daemon (MPD) 2010-04-04 v0.15.9
Do you have non-default settings? Afaik the A110 doesn't even have ipv6 support.
Also, did you stop MPD before copying the files?

AFAIK WAVE support is enabled, I'll take a look.

*edit*
Checked, it gives that message if MPD is already running at that port. Just "killall -9 mpd" to forcefully kill MPD, or "./daemon.sh stop" to stop MPD first.
WAVE was disabled, enabled both libaudiofile (WAVE) and WavPack: here.

(note to self; remove duplicate libs due to symlink copy)

Download
CSI packages.

Installation Instructions
Are included in the rar file, they're practically the same as in post #1. Just extract this archive, and then feed MPD.zip and MPDAudioPlugin.zip to the CSI installer (yes, in that order). Even if you're upgrading you should install both packages!

Version/Build/Config Info
This is 0.16.2 instead of 0.16, here is the output of "mpd --version":

Note that I've compiled MPD against FFmpeg 0.6.90-rc0 "Love and Peace", this is a departure from FFmpeg 0.5. I moved forward because FFmpeg 0.5 has trouble with extracting metadata from ALAC files.

Known Issues
- HTTP Streams no longer seem to work. Not sure yet if this is due to the new FFmpeg (likely), MPD or something else. Need to look into this.

What now?
Hopefully, this package is stable. If the majority has no problems (PLEASE let me know if it works for you or not. MPD is fairly complex), then I'll see if I can get it as an 'official' package on a CSI repository. Once that happens, then I'll create a new thread announcing that, and that thread will act as a support thread from then on.
Hopefully 24-bit support works and any of the other features you guys are waiting on. Unfortunately, if there are problems with 24-bit support I cannot solve them, since AlanH wrote the plugin and is the only one who can fix the lowlevel stuff that is going on there.

Shadowcode

I reinstalled the previous non-CSI package after making sure mpd was stopped and now it did install OK and the bind-message did not appear again.

It appears the mpd does play, but I did not get any sound.

I still was using the Audio-plugin for the 0.15.9 version though.

Did you test with AlanH's 0.16.0 audioplugin?
I do notice you didn't put it in your output list above.

RE: Music Player Daemon (MPD) 2010-04-04 v0.15.9
You need both packages. The old version of the output plugin does not work for 0.16, you'll need the one I supplied.
It's not listed above because MPD doesn't include it when queried with --version Smile

It should work out-of-the-box with at least stereo ouput. Can't test HDMI though or 24-bit support. Also, I'm not sure how 24-bit output is enabled, but you'd probably have to tell MPD to output in 24-bit (probably changing the plugin's format field in MPD.conf might do the trick)

Hello Angelkiller,

Did you get mpd to work on a series 200 player
and it is playing music ?

Your profiles say you have a a110 not a a210 ... do you have it working on a a210 ???

I have never been able to get mpd to work on my C200
only my A100 ...

It'd be a small miracle if it worked on the A210. It's probably a typo :-(

I'm going to see if I can get this pushed onto a repository. Have been listening to music all day and haven't encountered a single bug.
If/when I figure out what's going on with the HTTP streams, I'll push another update through CSI.
