Music Player Daemon (MPD) 2010-04-04 v0.15.9

I think the strenght of MPDJB is that i can play & control my music on the popcorn (internal HDD)without the use of a pc /iphone. I don't want to use my pc when i want to listen to music.
Saves a bit on the electrix bill
I use MPD as a standalone music player and i love it.

Only with mpdjb you have to turn on your TV-set to see what you are doing and to control your music playing and that's bloody anoying. That will cost you plenty on electricity as well.

The strength of mpd on the Popcorn is that you can play music and control your music without having to turn on TV or PC.

Mpd on Popcorn combined with mPod on an iPod is ideal combination.

I don't know what you are talking about. Maybe read something about mpd first.

MPD doesn't have a screen because you don't use it with a TV.

MPD is just a daemon, a background process, you use other software for a client to control it.

mpdjb is maybe such a client which you use from TV, but this thread is not about mpdjb. Better search somewhere else on the forum for mpdjb.

To whom it may concern;

I'm heading out today, plan to take another look at MPD 0.16~ tomorrow, ran into some (unrelated) toolchain problems last weekend.
Some thoughts:

• Signal-to-noise ratio in this thread is.. uhm.. bit annoying. I don't have anything against people needing troubleshooting, especially if it's got something to do with this very build, but it would be nice if MPDJB and other MPD client-related questions were asked in some other thread, so that we can keep things focused on actual bugs and configuration issues.
• I wonder why 25% voted that they do not know how to install MPD. I wonder why they voted for this, are the installation instructions too tricky/vague? Should've enabled public voting so I could ask 'm.
• My toolchain was missing some float utility function stuff, things like lrintf and the likes. I solved this by linking in substitute code (which might be incorrect, need to review this). I'm not sure though if configure is supposed to detect that lrintf is missing or not. This might(?) explain the crappy audio quality in MusePackDec and maybe the difference between AlanH's and my FLAC multichannel support.

avanegmond - Thank you very much. I think that information is exactly what I was looking for. Sorry about the incorrect thread. I appreciate greatly your going through it with me.

I was looking specifically for a music jukebox to use, and using MPD with a jukebox just seems to be better than the other options. Specifically I'm interested in gapless playback. I don't have an ipod and my computer is already routed through my sound system, so I was specifically concerned with a jukebox.

I have a similar setup, but no symlink. Just enter the full pathname in your mpd.conf file (/opt/...). Now the secret to access these files and get them listed is to first access the share through the Popcorn UI.

If the share has not been accessed since the last boot, it will not be mounted inside the dir structure. Access it once, then restart the daemon.

Well, i'm trying to install mpd.

Shadow, I think what is missing in ur instructions, for a linux noob as me, is a simple way to be sure that mpd is installed correctly.
I mean for example i followed ur process, CSI tells me that both packages are installed, but if i go to mpd directory it's empty, no files, no log ...

I'm trying to install a mpd compatible music jukebox, it doesn't work yet but i don't even know if it is a mpd issue or not.

Is any progress being made with integrating AlanH's new plugin?

Just curious (and impatient ) and wondering if the changes to the interface in mpd 0.16 are making things more difficult.

To be able to connect to Telnet on the Popcorn you will need (if using a PC) something like PuTTY (google for it).

When you run PuTTY you have to enter the IP-address of the Popcorn, the protocol (Telnet in this case) and the portnumber (23 is default Telnet).

It will open a terminal window with command line session which presents with the following prompt

/opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/HARD_DISK #

Then you go to the directory where the mpd binary is and run the command.

Code:

cd Apps/mpd/bin
mpd --create-db

Also look up some useful Linux commands on the internet so you can navigate and look around a bit.

Code:

ls -al ==> shows a directory listing with all files also the hidden ones (a) and with a long file listing (l)
cd ==> change directory
mv ==> move file
cp ==> copy file
rm ==> remove file
rmdir ==> remove directory (only when it is empty)
