I must say I have never run this command from command prompt because the install script runs this command for you and the database always already existed for me.

Check your directory structure if the database file is already present. In the mpd.conf you will have defined its name and location. For me it is called "database" and is located in mpd/etc/ .

Otherwise try to use the mpc client from the bin directory by running the command
