There seems to be problems if I unrar the contents in the existing release I am using.
Believe Don had suggested installing it in a new application folder and then copying the database over to the new UMC location...

I would suggest then reinstalling the upgrades and shutting down before copying the database and your settings file from the old location...

Note that the version in the download is still the April 7th version, so I don't think it's been updated as of yet, before reinstalling check the contents of the rar file and see if the dates are the same as the ones you have now, if so, I wouldn't reinstall.

But what about all the data downloaded (covers, poster, etc...)? they are not inside the database, correct?

What else should be copied over?

Why can't the updates include UMC upgrades?

I would think that the covers, banners and backdrops in the resources folder should be copied as well... I don't believe I've seen definitive upgrade instructions, but I would not delete the previous UMC install until you have everything copied and working with the new install.

maybe you need to install ver 1.0 and then shutdown UMC and restart, and the upgrade will show for 1.01?

I'm no expert, but I don't see anything wrong with your logs, suggest you lock all movies leaving just 2 or 3 unlocked, and see if the scan completes...

(04-09-2010 10:35 PM)hxall Wrote:  @Don,

Here's the situation more clearly depicted, I went ahead and created an nfo following your previous suggestion on what is YAMJ compatible format, you can see below the nfo, the xml, and the IMDB webpage for Terra the movie, all id's match, but UMC still loads the wrong info (it loads Earth)...

files are:

Terra.mkv, Terra.nfo, Terra[Movie].xml
Movies are all in a folder called C:\Movies
NFO's are all in a folder called C:\Movies\NFO
XML's are all in a folder called C:\Movies\XML
Library entries are created for NFO and XML folders as Fanart

[Image: capturemy.jpg]

well I think I have found the problem with nfo/xml not being read properly as follows:

1) the umc scanner first checks to see if an nfo file exists for the movie
2) if it exists it tries to read it, if it fails it searchers IMDB with the movie name (this has unpredictable results with some movie names such as Terra)
3) if no nfo exits, then it looks for a movie[Movie].xml file, if it finds it, then loads it up, if not then searches IMDB with movie name
4) the nfo (YAMJ) format given by Don doesn't work, background worker gives the following error when using this format:

Code:
BW1: retreiving information from local movie nfo file (C:\Movies\NFO\Terra.nfo):
09.04.2010 16:16:03 1767648 [BW-1] ERROR BW1 - com.umc.collector.BackgroundWorker.assignInfosFromYamjNfo - Error loading movie nfo file: C:\Movies\NFO\Terra.nfo:0: error: The document is not a movie@http://www.umc-project.de/xmlbeans/yamj: document element namespace mismatch expected "http://www.umc-project.de/xmlbeans/yamj" got ""

so obviously there's a header that's missing from the expected YAMJ nfo format...

@Don, would be good if the UMC scanner when it encounters problems with an nfo file to proceed to try to load an [Movie].xml file rather than automatically searching IMDB with just the movie name???

There can only be one XML for a movie.
If you have a UMC and a YAMJ xml the UMC xml should have a higher priority and should be used.

Thanks for your detailed test and finally finding the problem! As I often said a lot of information can be found if you try to read the logfiles. I know there is a lot of information in that files but if you understand it you will be able to find soon possible problems.

sure, will do... (EDIT: bug 91 was submitted April 9th)

I have also noticed that many of the new UMC 2.0 created xml files (from the older 1.84 xml's) are in ANSI format, shouldn't these files be in UTF-8?

I have had that same issue. For the most part I just ignored it since I don't use the UMC.bat file. On this last time though I found that if I saved the project and then closed UMC and reopened it the install button became clickable and it claimed it installed it. However the UMB.bat update still sits there in the update area saying it's installing.

Bug..

Actually that makes a good point because if you go directly to IMDB and search for "terra" the first choice that comes up is "Earth".

RE: [Download] UMC V2.0 - Public Beta
I would like to bring up another problem I have encountered with some movies, for example the movie Brothers, even with a correctly structured xml:

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<xb:movie xmlns:xb="http://www.umc-project.de/xmlbeans">
  <xb:language id="en">
    <xb:plugin type="imdb" id="tt0765010"/>
  </xb:language>
</xb:movie>

The scanner (latest build) consistently fails to update plot and rating, see below (EDIT: filed bug #93)

[Image: capturenl.jpg]

Background Worker reports using the xml above and finding the id in IMDB as below:

Code:

If I have a collection of Die Hard movies that I want to put into a group.
Do I create a Folder called "Die Hard" containing the movie files and then create a "Die Hard[Group].xml" file? and if so should this file be at the same level as the movie folder or should it be within the movie folder?

Carl

Posted the above a couple of pages back and haven't received a reply yet. I would like to set up groups properly so any clarification would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Carl.
I'm not sure where suggestions should go.

When "Scanning NMT Path" I noticed that you get a "True" message if your path is found. But if not it just skips to the next one. Perhaps would be better if we got a "false" message so that we know our drives/shares did not mount properly?

If I have a collection of Die Hard movies that I want to put into a group.
Do I create a Folder called "Die Hard" containing the movie files and then create a "Die Hard[Group].xml" file? and if so should this file be at the same level as the movie folder or should it be within the movie folder?

Carl

Posted the above a couple of pages back and haven't received a reply yet. I would like to set up groups properly so any clarification would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Carl.
Ok so I made an attempt at creating a [Group].xml on my own but it wasn't very successful. It looks like it created the group but when I click on it the busy circle comes up but it never goes into it. Also all the movies in the group are also on the main page. I would have thought it would remove them from the main page to put them only into the group?

Carl.

xml examples:

Boxee Box, MediaGate 800HD (Remember those?)

Gigabit Wired Network, Onkyo TX-NR1008, Samsung 58C8000 Plasma

RE: [Download] UMC V2.0 - Public Beta
@hxall:

the problem with "Brother" happens for a rescan is that correct? Or do you have the problem also for an initial scan?
@jctcom:

the defined members in the group xml must be located in one of your configured libs. No matter in which exactly. They can even be located in different libs. But as I said it is important that every member is located at least in one of the libs!

The group xml file can also be located in one of your defined movie libs or if you have a special folder containing a lot of xml's just create a new scan lib (type Fanart).
