No, it should be "tracert 192.168.0.3"

It just flashes up the dos box and disappears straight away

RE: Teething problems!?
you need to type cmd first to get to the dos window then run the tracert

Start > run type cmd

All advice is supplied packaged by intellectual weight, and not by volume. Contents may settle slightly in transit.

RE: Teething problems!?
Well, I've had enough of that for now!
Feeling very disappointed with it all atm.
Have been so excited to get my pch for months, and now I cant use it Sad
I never realised it would be this involved.
What should I do? call a local networking guru? who knows!
Would somebody on here be prepared to take a look at my setup via remote assistance
or teamviwer?
I would really appreciate the help

RE: Teething problems!?
It's down to one or two things badger:-
1. The router is not setup correctly, and perhaps
2. Your PC network is setup wrong and you have set it up as receiving a signal from a modem rather than a router.

Which town/city to you live near, I've tried to help a couple of users and gone to fix/verify their problems if they are local.

Use something like snaggit or irfanview to take some screenshots of your router setup pages and your PC network setup. There should also be a setup facility in your router webadmin to enable you to setup your router for the first time. There I can choose to different options from setting the router up solely as an access point, with 2 port and voip, or 3 ports. You may have selected something wrong here or it may just be best to start from scratch.

The router looks to set DHCP ip's for only 24 hours before they expire and a new ip is used. Change it to something more realistic and let us know what the ip range is for the DHCP pool, that'll be in webadmin.

You don't have to be a network guru, just take things slowly and ensure that you understand what you are doing and why. I'm no netwokr guru and don't work in IT. I have managed to pick it up, on a basic but good enough for home use, and that must mean it really is relatively simple Big Grin

No it's not something i've ever done so i'd not try it on someone else's setup first time.Undecided

Look at the forum I posted earlier and post there aswell as here as it is a router issue and/or PC issue. Hopefully between the two we can get it going by either restarting from scratch, Day1 of receiving Sky/router, and set it up via a Wizard or CD. Making sure that you note what options are selected. Then move onto the PC and PCH settings.

You have a lot of the required information already:-
DNS address
Gateway IP
subnet

So if we can find out where the DHCP range is and avoid it then you can set the ip's of your devices and use static ips.

RE: Teething problems!?
Its all beyond me I'm afraid.
I'm happy to pay someone to install it, but I have spent 30 hours on this now.
All I wanna do is stream a film.
I dont have another 30 hours to spare.

If I can get it up and running before, I will end the auction.
If not, its going.
Chris, I cant even figure out how to attach the screenshots to this post!
Sky set up is just plug and play from what I remember/can see in the forum.
If its going to help, I will go and get a new router now?

RE: Teething problems!?
Had to remove your advert as we don't allow trading/selling.

Here's how to post screenshots:-
http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...p?tid=4339

Irfanview is fee and if you google you will find it has instructions on how to capture the image. Then upload to photobucket and post the link here. Couldn't be easier.

You will find the same problem with any device as your network and/or PC are incorrectly setup.

Why don't you reset your router, get the SKY router CD and set it up correctly?

RE: Teething problems!?
Have decided to keep trying and get to where I want to be.
Thanks all for your help so far.
Lets carry on shall we?

I now have a netgear gigabit switch - GS 108
And an old pc turned into NAS using openfiler
(someone has set all this up for me)!

So I can browse to the folders on the NAS from my PC and watch them fine
I can browse right up to the file name on the PCH, but when I try to play, it just flashes black for a split second and then goes back to the list of files.
I'm sure it is something simple but I have had a look round and can't find the answers.
All help greatfully received as always

RE: Teething problems!?
Now that's sounding a lot better.Smile

Right do you have a internal HDD in your NMT?
If you do then what happens when you try to access it from your PC via \\PCH-C200\ entered in the run box?

How have you setup things, are all of your devices going into the switch and then you run a cable into the router from the switch.
Have you accessed your router and seen the ip's that each device sharing the switch has either been given by your router (DHCP) or that you have told your router they will use (Static ip)?

Have you allowed the NMT permission to read the folders on your NAS that the files are in?
Have you tried playing a file that is on your NAS via the NMT?
Have you tried playing a file that is on your PC via the NMT?

Have you tried setting up a network share on the NMT, what happens when you try?
What settings have you used for network on the NMT?

I can access it and watch a video file from the pch internal hdd on my pc

How have you setup things, are all of your devices going into the switch and then you run a cable into the router from the switch.
yes

Have you accessed your router and seen the ip's that each device sharing the switch has either been given by your router (DHCP) or that you have told your router they will use (Static ip)?
Yes I can look at my router settings and see the attached devices and their IP's

Have you allowed the NMT permission to read the folders on your NAS that the files are in?
I am not sure!

Have you tried playing a file that is on your NAS via the NMT?
Yes, it will browse to the file but when I click on it if flashes black then goes back to the file name screen

Have you tried playing a file that is on your PC via the NMT?
Yes, I cannot do this either atm

Have you tried setting up a network share on the NMT, what happens when you try?
It would appear to work fine using the browsing method, I have not tried to manually add a share, but when I go to the folder I still can't play the files

What settings have you used for network on the NMT?
Wired auto ip/ 10/100mbps/ 5290

Hope this is everything you were looking for, really appreciate you taking the time to help
