PCH A-100 Lost ability to see PC Shares after Modem/Router Switch
I have a PCH A-100 that has been working fine until my 2wire modem/router died. I replaced that with a netgear DGND3300-100NAS_v2 DSL modem/wireless router. THe PCH is connected via hard wire. Since that change the PCH can get to the internet just fine but does not see any of the shared folders in the LAN. I can ping the PCH from the router and the PC. I have ftp'ed from the PC to the PCH with no problem. I have updated to the latest firmwear on the PCH and the modem/router. I also have a TIVO and is sees the PC and transferes both directions from the PC with no problems. I have not been able to locate any settings in the router that would prevent the PCH from seeing the PC shares.

I would appreciate any assistance anyone has to offer.

Thanks,

if you pch was setup with static ip settings.. check the dns server options, it might be different for your new router.

Thanks,

I originally had wired auto. But switched to wired manual and set IP in both PCH and router and still no help. It is now switched back to auto.

Thanks for the suggestion.

RE: PCH A-100 Lost ability to see PC Shares after Modem/Router Switch
I have narrowed down the problem to being a windows XP issue. XP has lost the ability to let the shared files be seen on the network. I have tested file sharing from an older windows 2000 machine and the PCH can see and interact with it fine. THe old PC can also see the XP machine but does not see any of the shares.

I have verified that simple file sharing is enabled and file and printer sharing is enabled in the network connection. I have tried setting up a new computer name and network name with the network setup wizard but still no success. I am hoping that I do not need to do a complete reinstall of XP or upgrade to windows 7 at this time.

Has anyone else run into this problem and been able to resolve it?

Thanks for the help.

And do you have the xp firewall setup to allow for sharing?

One thing that comes to mind with a change of the router, is its possible your network address changed.. Ie maybe on the old you were on the 192.168.0.0/24 network, and now this new router uses 192.168.1.0/24 -- so if xp firewall was setup to trust 192.168.0.0/24 your filesharing worked.. But now that your on a different network it does not trust it - and blocks... Guess to what would explain your issues with a change of router.

I have turned off the windows firewall and rebooted every thing and still no success. Where else would I find XP blocking the share from being seen?

RE: PCH A-100 Lost ability to see PC Shares after Modem/Router Switch
Have you installed telnet on the pch? If so telnet too it and then see if you can ping by name to the xp box, etc.

/opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/HARD_DISK # ping quad-w7
PING quad-w7 (192.168.1.100): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 192.168.1.100: seq=0 ttl=128 time=0.743 ms

how exactly are you trying to find the shares - browsing or did you directly add the share by computer name or ip? Could be you just have a browsing issue - which is quite common!

Which machine is the master browser on your network? More than likely is the pch, you could have an issue where the xp box thinks its the browser, etc. As to network name? Do you mean workgroup -- is the pch and the xp box in the same workgroup?

You can view which box is the master browser on xp with the browstat tool
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...laylang=en

Or you can just look to see with the nbtstat command, ie on my network I have set a different samba box to always win by setting its os level to 255.. Popcorn is not always on, and don't like not having full control of what is going on - the way the smb.conf changes resets on reboot, and all the scripting involved in getting it setup the way you would want - its just easier to have another box make sure it wins, etc. etc.. Wink

C:\Windows\System32>nbtstat -A 192.168.1.6
gig:
Node IpAddress: [192.168.1.100] Scope Id: []

NetBIOS Remote Machine Name Table

Name Type Status
---------------------------------------------
UBUNTU <00> UNIQUE Registered
UBUNTU <03> UNIQUE Registered
UBUNTU <20> UNIQUE Registered
..__MSBROWSE__.<01> GROUP Registered
LOCAL <1D> UNIQUE Registered
LOCAL <1E> GROUP Registered
LOCAL <00> GROUP Registered

First thing in troubleshooting browsing issues is understanding how it work, and for one which machine is the master of the segment, etc. etc.

I would not suggest you turn it off, since somethings can have issues -- ie I know the computer browsing service would stop when you did
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889320
When you disable the Windows Firewall service on your Windows XP Service Pack 2-based computer, the Computer Browser service stops after five minutes and Event ID 7023 is logged in the Event Viewer

Just needs to be correctly setup - also are you running any other 3rd party antivirus tools - most of them come with their own firewalls now that can cause users hours and hours of grief Wink

RE: PCH A-100 Lost ability to see PC Shares after Modem/Router Switch
I have found the problem. McAfee security firewall was blocking the sharing. Once I turned that off I could see the shares on my other PC and the PCH. I also had to reset the IRPStackSize which had disapeared from the registry. Thanks for all of the suggestions.
