Native resolution is in the EDID

PCH-A100/A210/C200/A400 500GB EXT3 HDD<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10
13 NTFS USB drives on 3 hubs attached to the A300, 3 Seagate blackarmour NAS 3TB

The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box

RE: [Feature Req] VOTE IN THE POLL!! Option to disable Popcorn Upscaling - let your TV/AVR upscale
I voted Yes! I thought between I don't care and Yes... Because I have no A/V Reciever/Processor. I think that TV is bad upscaler and Sigma may be even better. But I think it is a really good idea to have this option like additional function for AVR owners. I agree that big part of AVRs can do upscale better than Sigma chip 863x/864x... I heard a new 8646 chip announced and it will be fully compatible with current ones (Dune HD even announced hardware upgrade offer just like you go with your 8642 Dune to service center and they change the motherboard to 8646 one), so Syabas can really do this thing and it will not be gone in history like previous SDK and previous chips firmwares... This is quite something like Framerate Sync option, but it is really harder to realize it IMO..

But!!! Anyway it musn't be a priority feature - I think there are still a lot of issues with current functionality and most of working hours must be spent on solving them. (I still a bit angry on Syabas for they are making Rich GUI in time when a lot of people experience problems with playback... IMHO most of user buy device for playback files and not for looking on them in a beautiful menu Smile)))

Good luck.

The EDID is a good idea poorly implimented!

The chances of your display having a correct one are minimal.

I have a Pioneer 1080p plasma that at the time was the "world's only 1080p plasma" and cost an arm + leg. It will only connect at 1080i if everything is left at auto. So despite the loud trumpeting of the marketing department, numerous mentions of 1080p(24,50 & 60Hz) in the manual AND the evidence of my own eyes the EDID thinks it can only handle 1080i. Dodgy

So for me the option to be able to tell the NMT what it's allowed to output rather than be told is vital. And I'm sure many others would be in the same boat.

The set up list could have [yes/no/test] options for the unsure.

So Werner, how much attention do you think this poll has received for consideration from the PCH team?

I voted yes, but then I remembered that On the PCH you can choose the video output, and it is enough for me. Most of my files are in a standard video format.

Yes and no, in fact if you have a 1080p TV it can only display 1080p images. So if your video is anything else than 1080p, something has to upscale your signal. It can be your TV, your PCH, your DVD player etc... Some device will do the job better than other.

RE: [Feature Req] VOTE IN THE POLL!! Option to disable Popcorn Upscaling - let your TV/AVR upscale
Would like to use my receiver's FAR superior upscaler.

It really makes no sense that we do not have an option to turn off the popcorn hour's upscaler. It does a terrible job in my opinion, some of my DVDs just look like trash compared to the PS3. If I could allow my receiver to upscale i'm sure theyd look on-par or better than the PS3.

PLEASE add this feature!

I dunno if my AVR even supports upscaling but for sure a future AVR will.
So i voted Yes simply for the users who want it and for future use Smile

I vote yes to the poll, I think it's a nice idea.
But maybe I lost something: if I have an original DVD video file and I set Popcorn output to 576p, I think it deinterlaces the files, without any upscaling. If I have a 1280x720p video files and I set Popcorn outputting 720p, it doesn't deinterlace nor scaling; same with 1080i and 1080p24, if I match input and output resolution/frame rate.
I thought the option to output native resolution of a video file was only a way to automatically match input and output resolution/frame rate without having to do it manually, with some advantage only on SD files (that would be outputted in their interlaced original format). I did not think this function had something to do with inhibiting upscale from popcorn, as if it is manually properly set up, it should not upscale at all.
Could someone better explain this point?

RE: [Feature Req] VOTE IN THE POLL!! Option to disable Popcorn Upscaling - let your TV/AVR upscale
Most people have quite a mixture of PAL/NTSC DVD files, 720p and 1080p content.

It's quite a chore changing resolution manually everytime you want to start watching something that's at a different resolution to the current setting.

And it most definately isn't wife/girlfriend/child friendly.

Which is why a source direct mode that does this switching for you would be such a great feature.

Exactly.

We have DVDs in PAL and NTSC with refresh rates of 50/60Hz depending on which region they were purchased in. And that's before the BluRays.

So, whereas my wife could simply drop a disc in the drawer before and hit 'Close' she now needs to know about resolutions and refresh rates. And she's (quite rightly) asking me how this is progress.

Thoughts on Syabas support? Share them here
