Media Player and Media Server in One
Are there any MNTs that act as a media player and as a media server capable of streaming media? I have two TVs and one of the is the newer Samsung model which is DLNA complaint. I am thinking about setting up with MNT with the non-DLNA complaint TV and then streaming the media over the network to the DLNA compliant TV. Any suggestions?

RE: Media Player and Media Server in One
In order to answer the question you first need to know what formats your TV supports over DLNA and what formats the NMT can transmit over DLNA.
I know i can stream mp3 files fine from the DLNA on the NMTs to computers, even the windows 7 "play to" features works well when playing stuff from my server to the NMT. The problem comes in when its time to stream video, that is something that can be a headache. RE: Media Player and Media Server in One
Seems like my TV can handle pretty much any video format. Which of NMTs that are available can stream media using DLNA? Once I know the NMT, I can do my research to see which might work best with my TV.
Thanks. |

RE: Media Player and Media Server in One
I can tell you one thing you're TV will definately NOT handle just about any file. Read the spec again as on some TV's you have to have certain model numbers to be able to hack them to play mkv. Then on top you also need to know what the upnp/dnla setup can handle.
dnla is just a talking shop. Having dnla means that the manufacturer meets other dnla manufacturers and tries to make things work between them, it does not mean that because device A tells me it has it and so does device B they will be compatible and work with each other. You could run a DLNA server on a PC that has the PCH drives mapped.

RE: Media Player and Media Server in One
officially none of the NMTs are DLNA compliant, but it does work to some extent. The NMT will br able to transmit almost any file, the problem is will the TV be able to handle it.
If you have a computer, use windows media player and give it a test to see what your TV can do. RE: Media Player and Media Server in One
I did experiment with a PC and some of the media servers that are available and that's how I found that the my TV can handle all the file formats I have. Of course there were some shortcomings but they were manageable. While experimenting with the PC, I realized that I would have to get a new PC (a dedicated HTPC) which I don't want to do at this point. I was thinking a NMT might be more cost effective so that was the reason for my question.
