RE: Popcorn Hour Future Models
I would think with the new sigma 8646/47 chip coming out, that any C200/A200 replacements would wait for those chips to be available.
It should certainly speeed things up.

A-400: Intel 330 Series SSD 60GB -> iScan DUO -> Denon 3808(audio only) -> Darblet -> Mitsubishi RP DLP
A-400: Patriot Inferno SSD 60GB -> Sony 2.1 speaker Bar -> Darblet -> LG 3D LCD
C-200: WD Caviar Blue 500GB -> iScan DUO -> Denon 3808(audio only) -> Darblet -> Mitsubishi RP DLP
56TB HP MSS WHS--32TB unRAID--29TB unRAID

New chips mean waiting months for fixes and lots of beta testing. Most companies dont even touch a chip until all the kinks are worked out. Perfect example are the WD series that are still stuck on the A100 chips.

PCH A-200 16GB USB -> HDMI -> Samsung LN46A650 | A200 -> Toslink -> Logitech Z-5500 (Harmony 700)
PCH C-200 8GB USB -> HDMI -> Sharp LC46D64U (Harmony 550)
Eversion/Whisper skin (custom MOD) + WHS V1 (15TB Q6600/4GB RAM ) -> Mediasonic HR82-SU3S2 (Backup)
D-Link DNS 323 for sale

RE: Popcorn Hour Future Models
The C200's motherboard is itx format, so they could easily design the 8647 chip in the same form and give a cheap swop option for existing owners.

I had expected a revised A200 with a metal case from PCH by now, however I think that everything is being thrown at the firmware side of things and future product development may take a bit of a back seat, especially when it takes so damn long to get the new platforms to a stable level.

A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI
CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407

RE: Popcorn Hour Future Models
Personally, give me a popcornhour that is like the popbox no drive, card slot and put esata on the back offer it with and without full bluray WITH the new opengl core for improved flash performance and I'll be as happy as I can be with a sigma chipset based player..

to make me happier, lets get this thing over to android, the full flash 10.1 and real plugins and browsers..

Hello

Do you maybe know when new players (on sigma 8646..) will come on the market.
Is this early 2011 or summer 2011 or ?

Thank you.

Chris,

This shouldn't matter. Those working on form factor are different engineers than those working on FW

Hope the A200 metal casing, when available, can offer as a accessory at a special price for existing A200 owners. Big Grin

RE: Popcorn Hour Future Models
When the new version of C-200 will come I expect that I will be able to reuse my excellent C-200 housing and be able to replace just the motherboard ! Any thoughts ?

As I am quite sure replacing the mobo on your own won`t be possible my guess is selling your old device and buy a new one with the new chip gives the same or better deal with the adavantage of a new device with new warranty, and you don`t have to sent away your player for a week or 2 (at best)

So this option is a paperfeature in my eyes.

RE: Popcorn Hour Future Models
8646 is supposed to go into production Q4 2010 with availability on the Dune models expected Q1 2011. The 8646 is software compatable with the 8642 chip.
No doubt PCH will follow with a new model at some point in 2011.

Dune are also offering a mobo replacement for their Taiwan built products (max), keeping upgrade costs down, a good move.
