Add screenshots/images to your posts

Ive seen a few comments such as 'I dont know how to capture screenshots' or 'I have nowhere to host my images to add then to the forum'. So I have decided to try and help with this little tutorial.

To add a screenshot or picture to the forum you need to host the image somewhere.

You can use Flickr, Photobucket, etc. most if not all are free.

I use Photobucket in this guide as Flickr requires a Yahoo account in addition to the Flickr account.

If you have the image already on your NAS/PC/etc then skip to step 2.

Step1 - Capturing the screenshot
For capturing screenshots I use IRFanView which is a great free app for this and also for manipulating your images:-

Step 2 - Upload to Host Site
Sign in to your Photobucket (or other host site).
Go to your album and upload the picture from your PC to the album.

Photobucket lets you select from a few image sizes if you wish to resize the image.
Step 3 - Copy img link
Hover your cursor over the bottom of the 4 links beneath the uploaded picture.
You should see a yellow text box appear with the word 'copied', look at the third picture in the screenshot below

Step 4 - Paste the link
Paste the link into your forum post.

Its that simple.

IRFanview has loads of other useful options including thumbnails in case your image is very large. Resizing of images is another use. Batch processing is also possible.

technically, you are not uploading TO the forum. that would imply that the forum somehow has image storage space and we are ftp'ing (etc) files to the forum.

we are not.

as you said, the USER must supply a photo/image host and you simply do what all other BBSs do - you link to the image that you just uploaded.

just wanted to make the language clearer since it seemed to imply that we were actually uploading images TO the webserver. and we are not.
