The 3D film thread
Hi,
Today I saw Toy Story 3 in 3D at the local cinema. To start with I found the picture slightly off, almost like I was looking at it cross-eyed, but after a while I didn't notice that. As for the 3D effect- there were some scenes (like when the toys were in a box, or looking through a window with rain streaming down it) where the 3D was quite effective and in general the depth of field was good. But, did it add much to the film? I'd say no. What do you think of 3D - are you looking to bring it into your setup? |

RE: The 3D film thread
May be yes for animation when they lose the glasses.
Absolutely NO for movies and television. |

RE: The 3D film thread
I felt the same about Toy Story 3.
In a way it works but I'm sure it would have been just as entertaining in 2D. Popcorn Hour C-200/Blu-ray/Internal 250GB HDD with Apps Popcorn Hour A-200/Rear External 16GB USB with Apps Apple TV 2 x 2/XBMC MacBook Pro 10.6.5 - 29TB Sickbeard - Couchpotato - YAMJ - TOMY - SabishGT |

RE: The 3D film thread
I was just talking to a friend last night who was raving about how they are looking to get a 50+ Samsung 3D tV. When I mentioned I wasnt that impressed they seem all kinda deflated, but pressed on regardless about how they can get this 3d tv cheap etc.
I've never heard anyone so keen on 3d that wasn't trying to sell it, so I had to ask "Have you actually seen a 3d movie?" ... "nope" They had just seen demos in the shops. I advised them to at least watch Avatar @ IMAX before deciding to splashing out.

RE: The 3D film thread
Hate 3d. Gives me a headache, and as I already wear glasses anyway I look more of an idiot wearing an extra pair on top (also means I have to focus through 2 sets of lenses which only increases the headache
![]() Unfortunately, if you want a new high end TV you're looking at one with "3D capability" and can't escape it. Will I buy any 3d content? No. Will I watch it at the cinema? No. bah humbug |

RE: The 3D film thread
You really need to see in a IMAX theatre, Imax 3D of How to Train Your Dragon 3D, and then see IMAX Avatar SE 3D. These are the BEST in 3D!
Or you could go to Disney World and experience in 4D: Mickey's PhilharMagic Movie and Its Tough to Be a Bug! |

RE: The 3D film thread
Avatar was great but I hated having a pair of oversizes polariod sunglasses on my face in a dark theater...
I actually noticed more of the movie when I watched the BD on my plasma at home.... the whole glasses thing reminds me of the quadraphonic audio hype in the seventies and the "spatial audio enhancements" to turn your living room into a cathedral... it only works for those who never been to one... Best chance I see for the current 3d technology is animation and gaming. But I think I will buy in when the BBC makes another EARTH series in 3D... and I trust them to do that when the technology is mature... To everyone who wants to buy one now, do so and support the R&D of the company that still needs to invent my next screen... RE: The 3D film thread
I took my wife to see Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D and it was great. It had me jumping out of my skin a couple of time. and I'm not scare of anything. My wife was hiding behind her coat most of the movie. My wife was sold on adding 3D to the HT when it become just as good as Resident Evil and affordable.

RE: The 3D film thread
hate 3D too, picture is so crappy and darker ... i would prefer all the theaters first migrate to real hd projectors.
Same for tv, if i except sattelite channels, i receive around 50 dvb channels here, less than 10 are broadcasting in hd, so the 3D with all the family wearing 100$ goggles to watch forecast hmmmmmm ... No More Jesus |
