[Bug] [A-200] Hebrew subtitles are inverted in MKV

Good day everybody.

For some strange reason, if I'm trying to display a Hebrew subtitles wrapped in MKV, then every word appears to be inverted. However, external Hebrew subtitles seems to work perfectly.

Am I doing something wrong?

Yep, in all mkv's.

No such problems were observed on PC playing these mkv's.

I hope you can make screenshots of both the PC and Popcorn hour displaying the subs differently, it will make it much easier for the developers to understand because admittedly they maybe non-hebrew speaking/reading folk.

I'll just write it exactly as it is shown on the screen (a couple of lines from "Avatar"):

PC shows it like this:

אז מה עלי לעשות
לרקוד איתו


While A-200 show it like this:

תושעל ילע המ זא
ותיא דוקרל


Just to remind, that in Hebrew you write from right to left as opposed to English.
But A-200 disregards this rule and is writing the sentence from left to right, thus causing the problem.
It is weird that only subs in MKV are affected, while external subs are fine.

Yes, the latest firmware is installed.

Update: I was able to replicate this using RC1 firmware so I have endorsed it to the developers in the Mantis.

Did you specify hebrew in setup for subtitles in both prefernces and DVD/BD subtitles?

I tried it and now what happens is I hardly get any subtitles at all, it displays some hebrew sporadically but when I set it back to english it all displays but is reversed as the OP said.

I hope some other C200 owner who speaks Hebrew can assist us.

Yes, "Hebrew" is specified in both preferences and DVD/BD, but the problem remains.

If you want to help us isolate it further can you please download a copy of jubler and install it.

You can then open the subtitle file using it.

Please check for us if the text is indeed written correctly in the .srt file or is it reversed as well to help the developers.

The text is written correctly in the SRT, I can see it clearly using notepad .

As I mentioned before, the same SRT works just fine if I add it as an external subtitle. The problem exists only for subs wrapped in MKV.

Thanks for sticking with it and checking things out. Dave has said he has or will create a Mantis bug report and I do know that in the past Hebrew issues have been dealt with promptly so lets see how it goes on Mantis.

A sample for the Syabas engineers to use uploaded to a dump site (rapidshare etc.) would be great as well.
