help needed home server issues,please!!

hi everybody i need some help!!

i have just bought a dell optiplex 755 and installed microsoft home server but i cannot get it to stream 1080p on popcorn hour a110, only divx files.

really all i want to do is the following:

i have a edge10 external drive which has ober 6tb of 1080p video, i want to have a mome network that i can connect this drive too, so i can watch my 1080p files of this onto my popcorn hour downstairs.

i also wanted to have a fancy layout that gives me the dvd covers and film info etc.

any help would be appreciated.

i was thinking of wiping of windows home server on my pc, installing windows7 then putting myihome on the pc, would this be a better option than tryiing to get windows home server to steam 1080p?

could i run myihome of my windows home server or should i just install windows7?

any help would be appreciated

i have the following ingridients........what can i set up?

popcorn hour a110
200mb homeplugs
windows7
windows home media server
dell optiplex core 2 duo
edge10 6tb hard drive.

sounds like you are connecting to some sort of media server
have you set up the whs shares on the A110?

yes its all set up but i cannot stream 1080p, is whs capable of streaming 1080p?

yes whs is very capable of streaming 1080p, but you network might be slowing down to much for 1080p at the home plugs

does the file start to play?

I'm streaming 1080p with HD audio fine from my acer whs, but it via wired 10/100 connection.

I think it's the homeplugs causing you a problem.

If you run the homeplug utility what speed does it say it's getting?

no it does not recognise any 1080p files maybe it is a set up issue because it cannot find any 1080p files.

do i create a folder and allow sharing then put the files into this folder? or use the video folder already set up by whs?

also, do i need to do anything in the set up of the popcorn hour to find the folder?

would using myihome be easier?

hi bazrah, so whs can stream 1080p no probs so i will have to try without momeplugs and tinker with the settings on the popcorn hour and whs.

do you know if i can connect my 6td external drive (loaded with 1080p content) to my whs and stream the content from these to my popcorn hour?

i have plugged it into the whs but it wants to farmat the drives to use as space for the server, no way am i doing this!!

In the WHS console you can set the drives not to be incorporated into the shared storage IIRC. Then you should be able to share them to the PCH.

Are the 1080p and other files in the same folder? So you can see some and not others in the list?

I think we need to backup here a step.. not finding 1080p files leads me to believe they are iso or bdmv folders of bluray discs and your using the windows media connect feature of the whs. upnp/dnla and myihome won't be able to "stream" those formats to any device. It has to do with how those applications work but you can connect the pch to the share the videos are stored in to play them.

That's a good point Accident.

When I first started using my WHS I couldn't find any files, as I went through DNLA and not a network share.

the files are mkv mostly, im a bit lost :(now

so i put the mkv files in the share video on the media home server and then look for this folder on the popcorn hour and they should play?

I think you have missed out setting up the pch

have you done steps like in the wiki

setting up shared folders on whs might be a little different to the guide

Even if you do get 1080p files to show up your homeplugs might still hold you back.

I have 200Mbps homeplugs in my conservatory. Most 720p plays fine, most 1080p files struggle.

will give this a try when i get home , thanks for assistance regarding my little problem
