Please add subtitle support for SBS 3D movies
3D Televisions can play 3D movies from a movie coded in Side By Side format. This means the screen is split up horizontally or vertically where the images for the left eye are shown on one side, and the images for the right eye on the other side.

The 3D TV then takes out one half of the screen, displays this full screen for one eye, and then the other half for the other eye. You have to wear shutter glasses for this.

The Popcorn hour doesn't have any problem with SBS coded files, the 3D quality I get is superb. Smile

However the separate subtitle files are shown as usual below in the screen. If you watch a SBS movie that has a left and right site the 3D TV's will cut up the subtitles, show the left site of the subtitle over the whole screen mixed up with the right side of the sub tile over the whole screen. Cool

To correct this the subtitle should be displayed twice, once on the left side and once on the right side, perfectly balanced so the fall over each other when displayed full screen.
Can this option be added to at least the Popcorn Hour C200?

I'd also like to see this for the PCH menu's (i whilst playing etc)

as already said it would need to display the menu twice one each side when in 3D mode, much as the Sky 3D EPG does.

RE: Please add subtitle support for SBS 3D movies
I would hope that there would be a more comprehensive 3D support added to the firmware such that everything from the menus to the subtitles would be viewable when the TV is in 3D mode.

For the time being, I am looking into hardcoding subtitles into both frames. This might work well enough for Avatar, where you only need subtitles for the alien language parts.

In a slightly unrelated question, is there an easy way to search the forum for all things 3D? If I try to put in "3D" as a search term, it says that it is too short. The best I have found so far is to search by "SBS".

We have found an answer for 3D subtitles in SBS movies. Read the last few posts of this thread.

C-200 doesn't support HD idx/sub, so, if you've made 720p or 1080p sub/idx, they will not be displayed. The only resolutions supported are SD, so 480p or 576p.

RE: Please add subtitle support for SBS 3D movies
Please keep the improvements...
I'm a 1.5 years owner of a C-200 and i never disagree waiting for new improvements, and surely we had a lot over this last year (always pleased whit them!).
But... Releasing a support to 3D without SUbtitle support that's something we should avoid to all who have a non english native language (as me).
I'm sure we will have some Easter present from Syabas and get finally a Subtitle support to all SBS files without having to remux and embeded them on the mkv file.
Greeting from Portugal! And keep the great work.

RE: Please add subtitle support for SBS 3D movies
I think srt subtitles work with 3D, not sure perhaps a 3D user who has tried SD sub/idx and SRT could post.

A400: SD Card(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD ROM (SH-B083L(SB01)), HDMI
CAT6 Wired Network: TV Panasonic TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407

As I already posted everywhere, .srt (even .ass) subtitles actually works with 3d tv with the latest 200 series firmware, but the subtitles are too light for read, totally unreadable with 3d glasses.

The problem is that syabas display the gui and subtitles only on one side (left side) of the SBS movie (turn off the automatic switch to 3d on your tv and you will see), contrary the logic of display on the two sides for 3DSBS content, well... frustrating.

If you remux the subs on the two sides of the SBS movie, the result is 1000% better.

The problem is that some movies are with "3d signaling" inside (like resident evil) and nmt changes to 3dSBS's Syabas even if you don't rename the file to .3DSBS, making impossible to use the remux workaround.

We need at least an option to turn off the 3DSBS auto switch on NMT.

In my opinion, this is a critical bug and MUST be fixed, but well, I posted in another topic and Chris told me this is only a personal request, so, ok.

RE: Please add subtitle support for SBS 3D movies
Hi!
I finally got my new 3D TV. Just play a little bit with her and here are the results of some tests already made:
- Normal .srt files can be viewed but as andreofgyn mention, only with an eye (very poor quality).
- I try to convert my .srt fle to sub with the 3dsubtitler vs 2.7 (all possible alternatives 720p and 1080p with high and low resolution) - Non of them have worked for me. No subtitles at all on the TV (just a strange noise on the 720p/low option).

Seems i will need to wait for a new firmware... :-) Till there will use the external USB of the TV.

Chris, where can i found a 3D subtitler with SD convertion as you mention?

Greetings from Portugal!

RE: Please add subtitle support for SBS 3D movies
Hi Guys.
I made today another test with the srt23dass available on the forum, the results without re-muxing the subtitles on the mkv just leave them as .ass file on the movie folder are not very pleasant to... Smile We see 2x subtitles on a 3D image.
Will leave this subject for the future, i plainty confident we will have a 3D compliant NMT soon. Big Grin
Keep the good work guys!
Just forgot, renaming the video file to *.3DSBS works really well - my Samsung D8000 have reconigzed as a 3D font.
Greetings!
