RE: Time to Stock up on 2TB drive ($79) WD20EADS
That's a normal price to me.. do some searching and you'll find someone has that price usually with coupon and either WD, hitachi or Samsung drives..

If your shopping for storage or anything its not a bad idea to make up a little collection of bookmarks for coupon codes or sale sights.. there are different ones for each country because or retailers but I find in the US: http://www.slickdeals.net and http://www.techbargains.com to have a good list every day added. some are also creative like if you add a box of pencils you'll get qualify for a sale on something else worthwhile.

Keep in mind almost all sale sites have the best sales in the forums and after many users vote on it it goes into the website list. so those with limited stock may never get to the webpage.
side note, keep in mind 3TB WD drives are now shipping they are right about $200US Seagates are due out before the winter holidays and usually hitachi sneaks in with their drive at a lower price.. For those with limited slots for drives it might be worth the more $$ per gb. Raid users or lower end single drive network storage units.

Keep in mind with 3TB:
- it's a completely new technology, in some cases you need a special raid controller to format/boot it so check with your storage maker to see if they will work.
- Your desktop may not work, most boards that can really use them don't come out until next year however a DIY unit you can probably just add ina little compatible sata card for them.
- the PCH most likely can't support it... we don't really know they are just shipping but I would have a plan B if you go to add it to the pch and it doesnt' work. moving to an external case will not work either in this situation.

We already know 3TB seagate externals won't work with the pch.. well they will up to 2TB but if you break that it won't work and not worth it. I wouldn't expect a fix for this as most linux computers don't work either.

This week I bought 3 of the 64MB version from my retailer for $99.99 CDN, which was cheaper than the 32MB version.

Canada's Newegg.ca has Halloween specials this week until 11/02/2010

Memory Express has the Seagate 2TB Barracuda LP SATA II w/ 32MB Cache HDD for $88.99 CDN (limit 2)

I have one of these drives coming soon. What is the best length / shape SATA cable to use?

If you are going to use it inside the PCH then the cable is already there I believe.

For anything else it would depend on your application.
