[NMJ] Enhancement Requests
Updated: This is the current summary of requests from this thread - Thanks a load to kirby_blue for starting me off assembling this - I've added a few more of my own observations too from some other threads. If you see your favourite is missing, please PM me.

--Global
* De-Couple the NMJ from the Firmware. ie. make the NMJ a NMT APP vs being embedded in the firmware.
* Merged view of all NMJ enabled devices
* In NMJ capability to move to another NMJ DB (as temp. measure toward above)
* Locally stored NMJ database, accessing remote/NAS shares
* To have the option to have NMJ start automatically when the machine starts. (TIEFLING Edit: There is a way of doing this on these forums already, but having it as a configurable option in the UI would be ideal for less tech savvy users)
* Info on file location in db such that proper share can be mounted/unmounted as needed
* File lock shouldn't be subordinate to key lock
* QWERTY Format keyboard
* Option to access the GUI remotely so as to not hog the TV
* Option to use an external scanning engine rather than the NMJ one by setting a reference to either another app on the PCH or to an external device service (enabling UI integration with Oversight or YAMJ, for example)

--UI
* Transparency option so we can see the fan art more clearly.
* Higher resolution images
* Sort by new (as in YAMJ or Oversight)
* Sort by rating
* Improve general UI speed (tooltip display in detail view)
* When file lock is enabled, thrash icon should be disabled or hidden
* Make switching genre/year etc. more logical/easier in Wall view. For more info see: How to switch genre in wall view?
* Page up/down functionality
* Left arrow to go back doesn't always work. (e.g., if filter by actor's name, clicking left won't get you to the point before you did the search.)
* Custom default setup / INI file for startup state for each NMJ DB (for example)...
1. Default View = List, Query = By TV Series
2. Default View = Wall, Query = By TV Series
3. Default View = Wall, Query = By Movie
4. Query = By Album
5. Default View = Wall, Query = By Album
* Configurable thumbnail size / numbers in wall view
* Possibility to get to the source screen without having to exit the NMJ first? (Tiefling Edit: I think this is already present - Werner?)
* View in video mode to show TV & Movies together
* BUG: When a new moviename.jpg poster file is added movie wall thumbnails should be updated automatically; at the moment you have to go into the movie details, select picture edit, unselect the poster, save, select picture edit again and then reenable it so the thumbnail is refreshed.
* BUG: When browsing an NMJ on a Network Share the title at the top of the page reads NETWORK_SHARE/ (not the name of the Network Share) and the icon is the icon for a USB drive rather than for a network drive.

--Scanning
* Much faster scanning/update times
- Enhance photo scanning by not creating thumbnails at all (show scaled down copies of the actual photos or a single key photo for an album) - This process is far too time and disk space intensive. Of all the scanning and building operations this should be the easiest but is instead utterly useless.
- Enhance music scanning by removing unnecessary database fields that link to posters and thumbnails. This is totally unnecessary as the thumbnails have a defined location and format anyway. If the link field pointed at a folder.jpg file then fine but it doesn't so what is the point??
- Enhance music scanning by removing thumbnails - There are duplicated images for posters and for thumbnails (for track and album) why? The single poster image is all that is required.
- Enhance movie scanning by using alternatives to mediainfo (when selected to be switched off) to populate additional data [file extension for container type for example]
- Enhance movie scanning by refactoring the database > Remove unnecessary fields
* Exclude directories beginning with @ when scanning (Synology support)
* Enhanced moviename parsing (allow exclude tags like [] and movie format tags like 1080p,BRRIP,...)
* A hook to replace the scanner with a third party one (e.g. Combining the NMJ UI with the Oversight scanner) (TIEFLING Edit: This could mitigate commercial product limitations)
* Give priority to the « movie.jpg » cover instead of the picture of imdb (seems to happen mostly on refresh)
* "Refresh" do not refresh the thumbnail on the wall, but only the focused thumbnail
* Take into account "movie.jpg" and "movie.nfo" in the same directory as Video_TS
* Update process should detect updated existing movies, and not only new ones or deleted ones.
* Option to enable / disable mediainfo for video
* When adding a new file, no need to scan all files again just to scan the new file.
* Quickly exclude some individual files by adding a special sequence to the filename
* Integration with nzbGet
* Build/edit the db from a PC (can't ember do that? maybe with a plugin?)
* Have a db update daemon running
* More elaborate db that can contain info from other sources than imdb
* Allow to scan only one type of file
* Set db scanning from auto to manual without having to restart
* Rescan menu option must be password protected.
* Rescan should inform that it will destroy the complete NMJ database and ask confirmation
* Rescan should create a backup (with possibility to restore)
* Tool to see which file corresponds to which retrieved data
* nfo dumps from nmj db
* Choose the NMJ paths yourself (covers, fanarts, ...)
* Ability to schedule auto-update at some time (e.g. 3 am) and even if the device is off
* Ability so set 'Update on startup' by NMJ DB instance (for example, I have 1 NMJ DB for new TV series which I would update on startup but not my others)
* Provide scanning logs for problem file diagnosis
* BUG: Fix issue where mediainfo is executed on Update for existing files - This would speed up scanning straight away
* BUG: Fix NFO file reading - NFO files only work with the full URL not, as advertised, with either the full URL or just the tt value.
* BUG: Exclusion files do not work when the folder to be excluded has already been scanned. If an exclusion file is found then the relevant content in that directory found in the DB should be purged.
* BUG: Fix issue where multiple successive Update runs are required to pick up all audio files (http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...tid=46794)
* BUG: Exclusion files do not work on Mac shares as the Mac doesn't share files beginning with '.' > Suggest alternative exclusion file naming convention of @no_all.nmj (as an example) as WELL AS .no_all.nmj (accounting for all systems). (http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...tid=46907)

--Movies
* Option to disable "Last Scene Watched" video capture feature
* Box Set Support (also for series) (TIEFLING Edit: A little back end database hacking has allowed me to do this - I have a movie boxed set already for Kill Bill but TV Series box sets wouldn't be supported by the current DB config. without changes.)
* Filter by watched / unwatched items
* Show Watched/Unwatched tag over poster on movie wall
* Display things like subtitle languages and audio tracks.
* Custom categories
* Parental lock scheduling (NMJ disabled outside hours)
* Custom category parental lock (Kids wall)
* Start BR discs without exiting NMJ
* Multilanguage support
* Detect trailers and show links for them in Movie details OR Show links to trailers and play them online from IMDB (better?)
* A separate section for music concerts & music video's
* A separate section for home movies (marked directories?)
* Show Audio codec info in Movie details (DTS / DTS-HD / Dolby Digital etc.)

--Series
* Improved TV Series support and episode selection (seasons, videocaps, synopsis, episode name)
* Support for pilot episodes with S01E00 numbering (or other way of supporting specials)
* TV Series boxed set takes you down to season selector
* TV Series episode synopsis
* TV Series iso support (multi-episode disc)
* Multiple covers for multiple seasons (or banners) and only show the show on the different tv pages
* When viewing the list of episodes, pressing up should wrap the list round to the end and vice versa
* Where the filename contains an episode name (i.e. MySeries S01E03 - The Doughnuts.mkv) use the Episode name provided
* BUG: Items are sorted by the 'search_title field which does not contain the season number, hence seasons are not in the correct order. Currently an end user has to manually edit the underlying DB to fix this.

--Music
* M4A scanning support (Tiefling EDIT: This is there but documentation says it is not!)
* Add a "By Album Artist" category to Music library.
* Search should also work by artist
* Custom genres
* CD playback and fetch CD info from web
* Manage "now playing" playlist: move songs, add & remove, see what is next to be played...
* Display more ID3 tag info
* Gapless Playback
* highlight played song
* add option to switch between 'repeat' modes on album details level
* perhaps add option to display lyrics from id tag
* add CUE sheet support for flac/ape files
* Make Artist / genre options in music clickable, as in movies, to navigate to a search query of that type
* Artist wall view
* Support for DISCOGS to query music data
* BUG: Seems to always read earlier versions of MP3 tags where multiple versions are present > Should read latest version. I have files where the content v3 tags have been changed but the old v1 tags are still there and NMJ uses the v1 tags as priority.

--Photo
* Scanning time on photos is far too slow
* Options to read metadata on / off

--Apps
* USB Keyboard support

RE: [NMJ} Enhancement Requests
Definitely:

- Beter TV-shows / Series support (i.e. 1 cover for a serie, beneath that the season list, beneath the episodes)
- multiple sources support in one NMJ-jukebox (i.e. 3 External USB drives, 2 networkshares and 1 internal drives combined)

Hope this will be supported soon!

RE: [NMJ} Enhancement Requests
1a Faster scanning times like said above, even though i think its pretty fast when syabias proxy aint overloaded. I had 0,15min pr movie right after nmj came out. Yesterday night i had 0.5min and today 0,20min pr movie
1b Much faster update scanning. Like yamj uses like 1-2 min when u add 1 movie but nmj uses like 20min to do update even if uve added a movie or not.

6 hours to scan 320 movies overnight here in the UK, and of course the C-200 does a lot less than YAMJ considering it's not pulling down video caps and synopsis for each TV episode or fanart etc.

YAMJ takes under 5 minutes for a full scan (quad core, 20mbit connection) and now gets my library spot-on, so the admitted benefits of NMJ plus the cons (ridiculous scan time, no box sets, limited tv series, not to mention errors/omissions) means that NMJ is not a YAMJ replacement just yet.

And I dread to think what happens when Rev2 comes along should everyone have to re-scan their entire library in order to complete the upgrade... more slow times. Wink

RE: [NMJ} Enhancement Requests
6 hours for 320 movies at 20mb Is not the speed c-200 nmj is supposed to operate with as i said 0.15 movie pr min the first time i build the nmj (probably one of the first to get nmj and do the scan)
Then it was 360 movies in ca 1 hour and thats about the same yamj used to build my jukebox from scratch.

When you say yamj uses 5 minutes, you dont mean a full scan from scratch?

For me nmj has replaced yamj, just took some time to get all my movies right with high res cover/fanart. Only hoping The Update scan can only update the new added files instead of going trough every movie. Even tho the first nmj build scan is a pain in the ass, there is possibilities to use pc to convert your yamj and turn of auto update for nmj. Then you only need to update when u add new files.

RE: [NMJ} Enhancement Requests
Please realize the scans are not normally as slow as they were yesterday and today. There are a lot of people using the API for the new firmware, so IMDB is struggling to keep up with the search requests.

Once everything calms down, the scanning time will be faster.

Yes, 5 minutes from scratch (and about a minute and a half to refresh the library plus add one new movie/episode). The latest YAMJ is multi-threaded (a number of thread-related bugs were fixed recently) and with 4 cores I configure it for about 64 processing threads which still don't tax my PC...

What i meant is, sickbeard already outputs a folder sorted by shows, seasons, etc. (Sickbeard is not an indexing tool like NMJ, it queues up tv show downloads, then names them)
But it names all shows path\showname\season #\showname.s0#e0#.nameofepisode.quality.fileextension

And NMJ needs showname.s0#e0#.fileextension

I haven't tested it yet, to see if it will fuss up on my current file structure or not... i'm still trying to make the movies work Big Grin

Oversight offers a file renaming script that executes on downloads from NZBGet - This is useful for NMJ users too as you can configure the script to rename the TV shows to a recognisable format.

Sickbeard names files like this for me:

Bones/Season 6/Bones S06E01.mkv

You can change it in the settings.
