[BUG] AVI crashes C200 -> no movie playable till reboot
I have a problem with an AVI that crashes my C200 when scrubbing through. Sometimes is works but sometimes (mainly when playing backwards or pressing the numeric buttons) the screen gets black and the C200 jumps back to the UI.
After that the C200 can't play movies anymore. No matter what format. Only a reboot fixes the problem. C200, internal HDD, latest FW Code: General |

Been finding a similar problems since the August Firmware release with some Xvid files. The August release was particularly bad to the effect that I rolled back. Has improved with subsequent firmware releases but does still occasionally happen. Have tried to find out the particular circumstances but this is proving to be difficult since the problem is eratic. From my observations some writing libraries seem to much more problematic, in particular 'XviD 1.0.3 (UTC 2004-12-20)'. Interestingly enough when I've found a problem file and re-encoded it with writing library 'XviD 1.2.0.dev49' (note dev49 rather than dev47) they have been OK. Very frustrating problem. The previous firmware releases, e.g. May and befrore this never ever gave any problem. |

RE: [BUG] AVI crashes C200 -> no movie playable till reboot
I've had the same problem, upgrading to the new version is worse since it will not play any AVI files that I have encoded. I had hoped the newer firmware would correct the problem.
FWIW: On the Aug FW, with problems with playback problems on some AVI files: I think the problem may be related to using batch mode with avidemux. If you encode them one at a time instead of batch mode I have not had the AVI playback issues. Although the problem does not appear while playing the same AVI's using non-PCH players (windows media player, Linux MoviePlayer, VLC, dragon, or several other Linux players). I would recommend using MKV going forward. I have not had any problems with PCH with MKV files so far. The only issue is that MKV isn't widely supported on Windows (and I think apple products). Media Player Classic does play MKV files. I have tried the Windows port but not the MAC version: http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/. I assume your using AVI so you can play archived media content on other devices since AVI is widely supported on just about everything. |
