[POLL] Where is your media storage located?
I’m curious about something. Accident and I had a short talk about this in some thread. He seems to think most PCH users have some form of network based storage for their media. I read the threads and get the feeling it’s about half & half between network storage and local storage.
I have a NMT apps drive and at times, copy a file there for testing but my media collection is networked based. So where is your media located? C-200, A-110 both playing from a DIY Linux Raid 5 server. Remuxes, Captures and Transcodes done on a desktop running; Win7, Intel i7 hexacore processor with 24 GB ram, WD VR OS drive and a WD Black 2 TB data drive. |

RE: [POLL] Where is your media storage located?
Networked based for me, all media is on my server.
I started with local drives a few years ago but using two media players in the house and a growing collection soon changed that. My C-200 has an internal drive that only has NMT apps on it. Same for my A-200 (USB drive with apps). I never put media on them. RE: [POLL] Where is your media storage located?
It's all on local storage (internal + USB) for the time being. My plan is to build an WHS when I get the money and time for it. I already have most of the hardware I need for it anyway, but being a university student money is always a problem.
![]() That said, local storage works well enough for me since I only need to access it from one player. But sure enough, transfers could do with a speed boost! Plus, I already have 6TB of storage in my main computer, and that could really be put to more efficient use if all my storage was centralized in a WHS. 17TB WHS 2011 w/FlexRaid -> PCH C200: Hitachi 2,5" 160GB & LG CH08 BD-ROM -> Onkyo TX-SR507B -> Pioneer KURO PDP-LX5090

RE: [POLL] Where is your media storage located?
I try to keep as much as I can on my 4.5TB Thecus NAS. I have a 1TB internal hdd in the A-110 which I use for media that I'm going to watch once and delete, YAMJ, and some of my girlfriend's media. The NAS is set to automatically shut off each night according to my schedule, so it makes sense to keep the stuff she wants to watch accessible all the time.

RE: [POLL] Where is your media storage located?
My collection started before I bought my A-110. I was using an oppo dvd player so I had many xvids in avi files. Those were fine on my old 30" 1080i picture-tube Philips HDTV. The 1TB internal drive quickly filled and now there's a 2TB drive in there now. A buddy gave me a 50" 720p Samsung DLP HDTV for free. So the Philips and A-110 are in the bedroom and my C-200 is in the livingroom with a 2TB internal and a 1.5TB USB drive. I'm slowly replacing my avis with HD mkvs for the films that I care about and I've got a few 50GB BDMV movies.

RE: [POLL] Where is your media storage located?
I started with all internal. And laughed at everyone using networked storage.
Then this year a 2nd pch came and i started ripping my blurays...and well now i'm 100% networked

RE: [POLL] Where is your media storage located?
Well, the reason I think the local storage count is higher, is because I think a lot of new people start off with an internal drive and start expanding with USB drives. I probably would have went that way with my first PCH but I had network storage for other things, so I just copied my media stuff in there. That was short lived because this media stuff grows pretty quick. I expanded to the near capacity of my hardware raid and recently decided, the media stuff had to go else where. So now a software raid.
Yes, I see most of the "regulars" here use network storage but I still think local storage is a pretty high percentage of the total PCH units out there. The issue is to capture them in a poll like this. |

WHS for regular DVDs, 1TB internal HDD for 1:1 BD rips (network can't handle them). Have had all my music (over 1,000 CDs) on WHS, both FLAC and MP3, for a while, as well as thousands of photos and some home movies.

My signature must say most of what I use, but I keep internal 2.5" drives in all of them either for applications or a weekend out worth music and movies:-)

RE: [POLL] Where is your media storage located?
Now 100% networked. I started out with an internal 1 TB drive in my A-100 back in the days, but that quickly (in a few moths) filled in. Currently 4 TB on my Synology CS407e NAS almost full. My new DS411j will arrive next week. I will move all movies to that. TV shows, and other things remain on the original NAS. Seeing my collecting habit I think I will be good with this setup at least for two years from now.
Media player 01: PCH-A100, 160 GB 2,5" WD HDD, Composite, CAT5 wired. Media player 02: PCH-C200, 320 GB 2,5" Samsung HDD, LG CH10-LS20 BD, HDMI, CAT5e wired. Display: Samsung LE-40R88BD A/V receiver: Yamaha RXV-630 coax conn. NAS: Synology CS407e, DS411j 8 TB (RAID5) |
