RE: It finds posters, but no thumbnails. Ideas?
All right, I think I have it fixed. I went back into the NMJ Toolbox, and made a single poster named identically to the film and placed it in the media folder (so "terminator" has terminator.jpg, etc.). I then dragged that new jpg into both the thumbnail and poster windows, and when I restarted the machine, all looks great. I imagine this provides the same functionality to some of the other solutions offered above. I would just say have a single jpg for each film, and use it for both the thumb and the poster. Moreover, I also got rid of punctuation (', :, etc.) as linux has issues with this. I know it's not proper English but it helped sort out those titles as well (3:10 to Yuma, Winter's Bone, etc.). Just dump the punctuation, IMO, and you'll be better off.

RE: It finds posters, but no thumbnails. Ideas?
I'm confused, surprised and suspicious ...
I had all posters in the dbase but only a few thumbs. With NMJ Tools I corrected them and after an update it ate all my thumbs. Like everybody in this topic seems to experience. After reading your replies some more, I read about Thumbgen and did only a few movies to test it. Did a quick rescan and ALL my thumbs now show on the wall page. Even after only 5 or 10 movie folders editted with Thumbnail...... will NMJ still eat my thumbs in the feature? who knows...but it WORKS now and that's the only thing that matters to me.. thnks for your replies !

RE: It finds posters, but no thumbnails. Ideas?
I regret to say that after copying over a few new media files, and doing a rescan, it AGAIN ate all of my thumbs and my posters too for good measure!! It replaced them (thank goodness) with the default (IMDB-available) ones, but I think the program's behavior is totally up for grabs. Anything's possible. I could turn on my machine tonight and a giant green goblin could leap out of it and eat my cat. Who knows, anything's possible...

RE: It finds posters, but no thumbnails. Ideas?
Hi,
Maybe solved for me... Let me explain : I had the same problem (popcorn hour A200, last firmware of may 2011) : posters are here, but no thumbnails on the wall. The problem was only on one network share, the others are ok. Of course I've checked the rights on the directories of this share. I tried to recreate the database, deleting it, using NMJ Tools, deleting a movie from the NMJ interface, refreshing NMJ, and so on, but nothing was working. When NMJ refreshed the data, the thumbnails went away. The thumbnail directory was empty by the way, but poster directory full of pictures. A few minutes ago, I was playing with the display type (wall, list, and category) : no thumbnail on wall and category, but posters ok on the list. So I was scrolling/looking to all the movies with the list display, and then go back to the wall mode. And here, big surprise : the thumbnails were all there ! ![]() So I've added some movies, and refreshed the NMJ from the popcorn hour : old (and new) thumbnails were gone on the wall... ![]() So I tried to look at 3 or 4 movies with the list display, and then go back to the wall : no thumbnail. ![]() At last I looked at the category display (no thumbnail of course), then look at the information of a movie ((i) button on the remote control), then look at the details of the movie ((ok) button), then go back to the category display, and then go to the wall display : and there... the thumbnails (old and new) were here all !!! ![]() Can someone tell me that it is not a bug ?... ![]() I will go on searching around this tip, maybe we just have to switch between wall and category display, or maybe we have to look at the details of a movie inside the category display, I don't know yet... But if it helps... ![]() A few minutes later... Refresh the NMJ => lost all thumbnails ![]() Go to the category display, scroll a little between each columns Go back to the wall display => all thumbnails are OK ![]() Very annoying... |

Yes, the same happens to me.
Switching between 'category' and 'wall' restores the missing thumbnails in the Wall view until you re-scan again. How can we post this as a bug for Syabas attention? (12-04-2011 08:27 PM)vger Wrote: Hi, |

I've opened a case at the popcorn hour support 2 days ago, but no answer for the moment...

RE: It finds posters, but no thumbnails. Ideas?
I'm anxious if there's any kind of fix for this as well. I've had my A-210 for over a year now, and like all of you, the native NMJ scan is no longer picking up and/or creating thumbnail images since about 2 weeks ago (I haven't updated the firmware since the May 2011 release). Furthermore, I can create the thumbnail images via NMJ Toolbox, but they disappear when I re-run a NMJ scan, like several people have noted. I have spent HOURS AND HOURS tweaking my database over the past year to get it the way I want, and it takes over 24 hours to build a new database (500+ movies 300+ TV series) so erasing and rebuilding the database isn't a viable option. Something must have happened within the last few weeks to cause this.

I received this answer one month ago:
Quote:Our database engineer has figured out the cause of the issue and is working with our firmware development team to resolve the issue in a future update. |

RE: It finds posters, but no thumbnails. Ideas?
I am in the process of consolidating all of my movies (ISO format) from three ReadyNAS servers to a single QNAP TS1079P server. I decided to recreate the NMJ DB on the largest server and "clean" everything up. This is when I discovered the the issue all of you have described and was quite frustrated when all of my thumbnails were deleted (of course I forgot to back up the database first.) I had a windows file window open during the update and watched as all thumbnails disappeared during the troubleshooting process that I went through. I spent hours playing with this and this is what I have discovered.
After an update (and all thumbnails have been deleted), when selecting the Category view, NMJ created thumbnails for all movies that will fit on a single screen after initial refresh. I have over 1000 movies and about 150 thumbs will fit on a single screen. After that no further thumbnails are created. If I do another update, then all of the thumbnails get deleted again. And again when I go to the Category view, the same thumbnails are re-created. I have found how to keep the thumbnails from being deleted during the update. Using NMJ Toolbox, select the option to have the generated files stored in the media folder rather than the NMJ folder. The thumbnails will then remain when doing an update. Of course the down side is that it creates a messy media directory, at least for me as over 1,000 new .jpg files are created which makes it a little more challenging when browsing the directory from Windows. I will wait for the fix, unless the unpate is significantly delayed, which is certainly a possibility. I have always used the List view, but once I consolidate all of my movies onto a single server, there will be almost 2,000 to browse through and the Wall/Category views seem to perform much better. Perhaps the C/A-300 performance improvement will enable me to go back to the LIST mode and then this will become a non-issue. Correction to my last post. When entering the Catalog view, thumbnails are created for 6 rows (3 up, 3 down) for all catagories "Others" through "z." A total of about 149 thumbnails for me. This behavior was consistent on several tries. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A-400, A-300,C-200, A-210, A-200, A-110, QNAP-TS1079P; Pioneer, Samsung, Panasonic TV's; Lexicon MC12, Denon AVP-A1HDCI-A, Denon A1UDCI, Oppo BDP93 |

RE: It finds posters, but no thumbnails. Ideas?
As a follow up to my previous post I have found a way to prevent the thumbnails in the NMJ db from being deleted during the update process. AFter creating all of the thumbnails using NMJ Toolbox, I changed the ownership of the NMJ video thumbs folder and checked the Windows option to update all files in the folder with the new ownership. I then configured the movie "share" on my NAS to "only" allow the "owner" to delete or rename files. I ran update several times afterwards and none of the files were deleted. The only down side is that every time you add new movies to the share, you will need to ensure that you change ownership of any new thumb files created, otherwise those files will be deleted during the next update.

RE: It finds posters, but no thumbnails. Ideas?
Unfortunately this bug has not been corrected in Firmware 03-04-120727-21-POP-411 (03-04-111220-21-POP-411) (31.07.2012).
The problem is still there. See video recorded after firmware update: http://youtu.be/cqSrNogxOGs |
