Hi,

Just rename the file to .mkv and try switching manually to 3D on the TV, that should make it ok.

Yes I understand that, but what I first need to know is:
How to attach a .ttf file to the movie

Hi,

For that just drag the ttf to MKVMerge.
But the double subtitles problem should be due to the MK3D extension.

RE: [TOOL] Convert .srt to 3D Half-SBS/TAB compatible .ass [UPDATED 30/09/2012]
Thank you Terribell,

Now it's completely clear for me, I was using an old version of mkvmerge which have no option for attachments.
This was making me confused and lost my way.
The test mkv I was using had an embedded 3D extension, so it was always appearing in 3D, also this was making it difficult.
The ass-subtitle story is only working when the mkv-file has no 3D extension in the filename as "3DTAB.mkv or 3DSBS.mkv.
Actually a pity because you can't play the mkv in 2D now.
Srt23dass has the option to change the color and font size, but you also can change this after when playing the movie with the pch A-200 is this correct?
Only the bottom marge is overruled by srt23dass and can't be changed afterwards by the popcorn.

By the way, a very easy way to quickly get 3D subs in your movie is just put the ass-file in the same folder as the the movie withe the same name as the movie.
When playing top and bottom 3D, you get a narrow sub then but it's good to watch and readable.
You don't need mkvmerge then and is sparing you a lot of time.

RE: [TOOL] Convert .srt to 3D Half-SBS/TAB compatible .ass [UPDATED 30/09/2012]
hey guys, i just tried this on a 3d 1080p movie and it seems i'm having problems on my LG 3D TV:
when i run the movie, the subtitles appear twice - one 'batch' of subtitles on the left and one on the right. they dont seem to be 3D anyway.
also, i did not use english subtitles and they appeared as Gibberish.
am i doing anything wrong? how can i make sure the subtitles are converted to 3D? and how do i make sure that they are encoded in the right language?
i followed the steps as you said:
1) created the ass file + TTF
2) used MKVMerge - added the MKV file and the ASS file
3) added as an attachment the TTF file

thanks!

Most of the problems with ass and sup (double subs on screen) come because the mkv-file is having a 3D extension (3dTAB.mkv or mk3D)
Be sure your movie have the right name f.i. Movie.mkv.
Then have to put your LG manual to 3D and every is OK.
Sometime there are movies with a kind of embedded 3D extension and then ass or sup never works.

By the way if you want really beautifull subs try 3Dsubtitler and TSmuxer and just make a AVCHD
I also have LG 3D and this is the best way I found.

Maybe you know allready but LG3D is working the best with 3D top and bottom.
Then you are not spoiling the hor. Resolution.

Succes

When opening the fonts folder (under control panel) all fonts appear as expected.
Maybe the tool is not supported in XP ?

Thanks

The tool works on XP, but maybe not the font selection code. I can't test it since I don't have XP anymore, but you can type the name of the font directly. You must use the full name, not the filename; something like "Arial Narrow".

When I play the movie in 2D instead of the subtitles to be shown on the left and right side they "double" displayed -like srt's- in the middle of the screen. When I switch my LG-LW980S to 3D then the subtitle line is split first half at outmost right and other half at outmost left.

Shall I guess PCH-a110 does not support 3d ass subs?

Not sure.... There could be several reasons for this.
Try using the default font and make sure it is attached to the mkv.

Just wanted to report a bug, nothing big, but though...
The code page (script) selected in Font options is not written correctly in the .ass file, it is always 1. I've edited the file and replaced it by hand with the correct value for the code page and it works, but it
would be nice if it wrote the selected value.

Style: 3D,Arial Narrow,40,&H00FFFFFF,&H000000FF,&H00000000,&H00000000,0,0,0,0,100,100,0,0,1,2,0,2,0,0,0,1

Otherwise thanks for a great program.

Honestly, I had no idea what that parameter was.... Tongue
It is hardcoded 1 because that's what I always saw in every sub I've used.
But you're right, it can cause problems in some languages. At the moment I have no idea how to solve this automatically, but I'll look into it.

Hi johnberg51.

Could you explain how I can make a correct AVCHD 3D to works on my LG TV? (I've a 60PM6700)

3D Subtitler is clear for me, but I don't know anything about TSmuxer. The subtitle will be a HARDSUB of the movie? This program will generate a single file?

Sorry for my English.

Thanks.

RE: [TOOL] Convert .srt to 3D Half-SBS/TAB compatible .ass [UPDATED 30/09/2012]
I hope this helps those with wanting subtitles on 3d movies. (mkvs).

In my case my a400 and 3d movies mkv (foreign non english) and english subtitles. i used 3d-subtitler works good for 3d SBS (side by side), but not good for OU (top and bottom). the position of the subs were in the bottom of each (bottom of top and bottom of bottom, it looked like the subs were in the middle and bottom of the screen. fail...

so i kept looking for other solutions for OU (top and bottom) then i started to do some playing around with both OU (3DTAB) and SBS (3DSBS).

I have an LG 47 inch LX6500 with the a-400 (latest fw).

This is what I do now, i hope it works for you guys.

download mkvmergeGUI v6.20 (MKVToolNix).

find the normal (2d) .srt for your mkv. (again you might have to adjust delay timing, but that can easily be done work subtitleworkshop or mkvmergeGUI or from a-400 subtitle menu).

launch mkvmergergui. (mmg.exe)

now add your 3d movie mkv into mkvmergergui 6.20
now add in the 2d normal .srt

now important parts.

in the track window:

1) highlight the video track.
now click on the tab below "format specific options"
see the stereoscopy selection, make sure it matches what the 3d movie .mkv format is. eg. side by side left first or top bottom left first, etc.

2) highlight the srt track.
now make sure you set your .srt to its language
default track YES
Force track YES (again yes, since most of the time its foreign language audio and subtitle srt are different language). This will automatically start using the srt instead of you manually selecting it with the remote.

after you have selected that, now start muxing.

what this has resulted in the following for me when i use the a-400 with the LG LX6500 series 3d tv.

i dont have to manaully select by tv remote which 3d format its in, the tv will automatically put itself into 3d mode (that stereoscopy format you selected from above).

the subtitles are automatically on the 3d screen just like a regular 2d movie. properly positioned by the bottom.

you can even still manipulate the subtitles as to change the color from auto to another color, change front size and reposition them if you want with the remote.

also now when i hit info on a-400 remote for example, the movie information overlay screen is properly overlay-ed on the 3d movie video as if i am watching a regular 2d movie. no stretched across the screen. same result for both OU (3DTAB, top and bottom split) and SBS (3DSBS, side by side split).

now I don't have to play with converting subtitles to the 3d format.

to sum it up, the tv detected which 3d mode it should be in from the mkv header (stereoscopy setting) and the a-400 is playing it like a normal video, so the subtitles can be a normal 2d srt file and a-400 info overlay screen is properly positioned and shown on the tv.

ps: i am using a DLNA (twonymedia server) so i put my subtitles into the .mkv, i havent tried yet, doing seperate files 3d .mkv and 2d normal .srt (browsing to it) but i think the main part is setting the stereoscopy. I havent tried other 2d subtitle formats just srt. my two cents.
