Question Strange internal HDD playback problem
Hi,

for a couple of weeks my HDX1000 won't play all files on the internal hdd.
Some files that worked fine in the past, suddenly stopped working, and the HDX also freezes on this files.

First i tought it was the known thermal problem (described in another topic) that causes the random freezes, but after disassembling the HDX everything looked ok.

Today i tried to watch a movie on the internal hdd, but the movie started to lag and the HDX freezes.
So id did a reboot (as always), and tried to play the same movie from a SD-card and it worked.
I could watch the whole movie without any lag or freezes.

So i would think that there is a problem with the internal hdd, but there are other movies on the hdd that are ripped in the same format/container and they worked just fine, so i'm confused why the hdd wont play all these files ?
Also i don't understand why some files that are still on the hdd and worked fine before, now won't play at all.

Does anyone ever had this same problem ?
And is there a way to check the internal hdd for errors ore something ?

I hope you understand my problem ? i tried to explain in my best english Smile

RE: Strange internal HDD playback problem
Connect your nmt (or just the drive) to your PC and boot the PC from a linux boot disk ("gparted" is a commonly recommended live disk) and run the 'fsck' utility.

RE: Strange internal HDD playback problem
Thanks, i will try this.
only a few questions because i never did this before.

-Can i do this on a win7 pc ?
-So i just have to connect the disk, or do i have to change the master/slave settings on my windows hdd ?
-is it safe for my data on the windows disk ?

RE: Strange internal HDD playback problem
You won't be booting win7, you'll be booting the linux live disk so it doesn't matter what OS is installed on your PC.

If you connect your nmt via the usb slave port, you won't have to touch your PC's internal drive. You won't have to open the case on either the PC or the nmt.

Everything on the windows drive will be fine as long as you don't do anything to it while running off of the linux live disk. Just make sure you point 'fsck' at the right drive. That is, the nmt drive connected via usb.

I'm sure there are some good tutorials out there for using a linux live disk, probably in your native language as well. I'm afraid I don't know of any offhand though. Best of luck to you and please report back to let us know how it's going.

RE: Strange internal HDD playback problem
Ok i've used Gparted live, and checked the disk.
Then i pressed on save details, but now i have no idea where to find this file, so i can't show you the details of the scan.
Or isn't it possible to locate the file when i'm running windows ?

Sorry for my dumb questions.

RE: Strange internal HDD playback problem
I'm sorry, I've never personally used gparted or any of the utilities. My knowledge of them is strictly theoretical. I am surprised/disappointed that it didn't ask you where to save the output, so that you could chose. I suspect that it may have saved the file to a ramdrive, which was destroyed when you rebooted the PC. Hopefully someone with first-hand knowledge can chime in.

Did the scan find and/or fix any problems? Have you been able to test the nmt to see if the condition is improved?
