[MLMJ] Downgrading from MoC 6 to MoC 5.6
I'm ready to give up on v6 of MoC (never even thought about moving to v7) and migrate back to v5.6 to get the IMDB scraping again. Does anyone know if v5.6 can read the v6 databases, or if there is a relatively easy way of downgrading the database. V6 has an "Export to XML" capability which presumably I could use to import into 5.6. Is that the best way?
Thanks for any help. |

No, because as stupid as it sounds there's no *import* from xml file
![]() If possible, install 5.6 on another PC and copy the 6.x database over to that PC, and then test. Otherwise I think you'll need to export to xml in 6.x and then use Kollection to do import into 5.6. |

RE: [MLMJ] Downgrading from MoC 6 to MoC 5.6
Thanks garp. I tried your suggestion and v5 would not read the v6 database - so I'm out of luck on that front.
I also tried exporting the v6 XML data and importing into Kollection. I tried it with only a single movie item, but it seems that Kollection was only importing a few of the data fields (title and plot). Do you know of a way to get Kollection to read all of the data elements? The other option I am exploring is to use DVDProfiler as an intermediary i.e. export from v6 to DVDProfiler and then export from DVDProfiler back to v5. Not sure if this will work or not. Any other ideas? Thanks |

RE: [MLMJ] Downgrading from MoC 6 to MoC 5.6
Many thanks to Mark and Dave over at the Kollection forums
The process is really pretty simple and painless: Convert v6 or v7 MvC database back to v5.x 1. In Movie Collector, File | Export all your movies to XML 2. In KollectiON, File | Import the XML file and then File | Save As. The MvC file saved will be a v5.x MvC database. After doing this I was able to open the database in Movie Collector 5.6. Since I was moving computers as well, I also had to manually copy the images from the Movie Collector\images directory on the source computer to the same directory on the target computer. So far, so good. |
