[audio] HDMI audio with A110, which settings?

I've got a refurbished a110 that I'm trying to get working

it's connected via HDMI to my Pioneer receiver. I'll note that switching the HDMI cable from the PCH to my cable STB indicates that the receiver is working properly, as the 5.1 audio from that works fine

I'm at the most recent firmware on the PCH. What type of settings do I need to use on the audio menu? I have it set to HDMI audio on, and have tried a few combinations of analog/digital, but am not having much luck.

I'm playing known good video files, both xvid avi and 264 mkvs

also I've tried to connect the HDMI directly to my TV with the same results; no sound. tried stereo and 5.1 output modes

I’ve the a problem of the same kind;

When I set the popcorn a110 to hdmi on and on stereo I’ve sound via my stereo but no 5.1 sound.
When I set the popcorn a110 to hdmi on and on 5.1 I’ve sound but no voice, so I hear the cars and other sounds but I don’t hear people talking.
I tried it with a correct dvd file (vob’s) and a correct hd file, but no talking people heard only the other sounds. As soon as I switch the popcorn back to stereo the talking people are back but the 5.1 environment is gone
So at this moment I’m using stereo but that’s is not what I want.
Anybody familiar with this problem?

So as an addition I tried it with optical audio out and component video and the sound worked great

Anyone?
