SRT Subtitles files not working
I have set up the subtitles to italian in the menu.
Put a movie.srt and movie.avi on the same directory. Press subtitle when movie is playing, it shows track 1/1 but nothing appears on the screen. this is the start of one of the srt files: Any ideas? Thanks

RE: SRT Subtitles files not working
External subtitles need to be encoded in ANSI to work. Open the SRT file in notepad and check... chances are it's UTF-8. If it is you can save it as ANSI and make it work, but some special characters may get messed up in the process.

I tried no joy. Do you have to have fonts installed to display them? Once I press subtitle on the remote and select track 1, if I press ok on the remote the triangle with the question mark appears, not sure if that has anything to do... I am running latest fw and apps

RE: SRT Subtitles files not working
No you don't need anything installed. You're not supposed to hit ok on the remote after choosing the track from the subtitle menu either, so that's the reason for the exclamation mark.

Was the SRT file UTF-8? If you saved it as ANSI I can't see why it shouldn't work.

RE: SRT Subtitles files not working
From what I recall UTF-8 works, but UTF-16, 32 and others don't?

Note to OP: have you specified a subtitle language in the NMT Settings?

RE: SRT Subtitles files not working
No, pretty sure UTF-8 does not work for external subtitles (I run into this "problem" quite often, forcing me to change them to ANSI). If they're muxed into an MKV file they work fine, but not externally.

Wrong - I have many external .srts encoded in UTF-8 and they ALL work flawlesly...

RE: SRT Subtitles files not working
Well, in the roughly one year I've had this thing I've never gotten external UTF-8 to work, and I've tried so damn many times that I've given up. In case it's supposed to work, I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing wrong. The very same subs work when converted to ANSI. I don't suppose you could supply me with an SRT UTF-8 that works in your end? Are you using them with MKV's or AVI?

Here's one, among many (all so far), that works for me as external sub with and .mkv:

RE: SRT Subtitles files not working
I think that for certain languages it will show UTF-8 and for others not. Plus it was in the 100 series the case that subs had to be ANSI but the 200 series handles more subtitles and where the confusion originates.

RE: SRT Subtitles files not working
I was having the same problem tonight. Renaming the .SRT to match the movie file did not work, and then I found this thread.

Opening the .SRT in Notepad and saving to ANSI fixed the problem for my C-200.

Thanks, Adrgha.

P.S. Is it possible to turn subs on and off during a film? So that if I have one with English subs, and only need it for a short period of time where, say, a Spanish dialogue is going on, that I can turn subs off after they switch back to English?

RE: SRT Subtitles files not working
Yes, of course. Either with the subtitle button on your remote or with the title button, which brings up a menu with Audio/Subtitles/Chapters selections.

If you only need subs for certain foreign language parts, you're really looking for forced subs, which only include translations of these foreign parts. Thus, with these you don't have to turn the subs on and off like you describe.

RE: SRT Subtitles files not working
Some movies don't include forced subs. I think you are supposed to get the gist of what is going on from the action and the spoken audio is only a sound effect.
