Server side javascript - C200
I found server side javascript (ejscript)can be built on a linux, I have even tried on c200 and it works. So, it can be used in C200 to use all features of javascript because C200 built-in browser lacks lot of javascript features.. Anybody has a clue?

Hmmm I don't have a clue, but I'm very interested.

So does what you tested support write-out features? Like cookies and such?

A100 w/ 500gb HDD, A200 w/ mn100, c200 w/ 2.5" 250gb
Calm 2.1, YAMJ - Redefined 1.8a skin, Music Jukebox 8
WHS ex490 w/ 2.5tb's

It looks like it can write out to files, from a peak on their forum and some of the documentation (here on cookie class, and xml).

RE: Server side javascript - C200
Reading on, it really looks promising. But I've yet to understand if we have a Gaya-replacement, compliment, or not anything new in particular - which can't be done in PHP already.

So, if I get this right, with this we could potentially have pre-compiled (i.e. faster!), template-based, database-integrated (i.e. "dynamic") jukeboxes (and of course to other web apps) with a lot more possibilities and features than existing implementation? Right on the NMT too?

But i think the classic UI (pre-NMJ) is fed by piping the html files to gaya via /tmp/gaya_bc - so how could this be a game changer? Huh

I think even the grid can be populated in C200 itself using this http://www.treegrid.com/treegrid/www/

RE: Server side javascript - C200
There's nothing going on in nmj that having an updated browser with better css and a host of ajax support wouldn't be able to do.. And the space for nmj in the firmware probably could have fit a php install.

This is interesting.. lets a javascript dev work on the server side stuff in the same language so your not bridging javascript user side with php server side.. however, it's how they talk to each other that I suspect is still that annoying missing simple command xmlhttp.

I look forward to hearing more about it as you explore.

RE: Server side javascript - C200
Unless I've got the wrong end of the stick it effectively replaces a backend language (eg php) with Javascript syntax. - ie for the on-the fly generation of "static" pages.

It does not provide client-side integration with the DOM - which seems to be the main area where features are missing with NMT/Gaya ?

RE: Server side javascript - C200
quick look and I see the xmlhttp requests to the server so it's still that fundemental browser side problem.. I think your QT +thta full screen browser has the potential that your hoping to find here. although future players I'm seeing new sdk elements for html5 browers and theres a lot of middleware companies with webkit ports and widget style extras..
