[Feature Request] Correct Frame Sync Output for 29.97 frames material
Currently NMT/NMJ outputs Videos with 29.97 frames per second @ 60.000 Hz. This introduces stuttering of the video every ~ 45 seconds. The correct way to output such material would be @ 59.940 Hz. This way the videos wouldnt have any stuttering.
The majority of North American HDTV is broadcasted at 29.97 frames, so this is a very important "feature" for users who want to watch HDTV shows on the NMJ. So please add correct output for files with this frame rate. If you guys think this should have been implemented by default and/or would like this beeing corrected, please vote. Thank you! |

RE: [Feature Request] Correct Frame Sync Output for 29.97 frames material
What makes you think that it doesnt play it back at NTSC rates? I believe it does but just reports it as 1080p/60 for the marketing guys.

RE: [Feature Request] Correct Frame Sync Output for 29.97 frames material
It doesn't because I can see it in the Info of my TV. Plus as I said, the stuttering of the video occurs and sometimes out of sync audio.
Just a side note: the Dune players DO output 29.97 frame material correctly @ 59.97 Hz. |

RE: [Feature Request] Correct Frame Sync Output for 29.97 frames material
hmm i play alot of 29,97 content and never had issues with it, also as chris stated 1080p60 use 59,94 which is NTSC, could it be that you playback TS files and are you using as default 1080p50 and NTSC/PAL/24p as framerate sync? if so could you try out 1080p60 and NTSC/PAL/24P as framerate sync.
TS files are often very strange and reading out the correct fps is very hard. Regards, Werner ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Syabas Technology Inc. DBA Popcornhour |

I am using framerate sync NTSC/PAL/24p, I will test some other files and report back.

RE: [Feature Request] Correct Frame Sync Output for 29.97 frames material
@ Werner
Via MKVmerge I forced a file to be played at: 1 - Frame rate : 30.000 fps 2 - Frame rate : 29.970 fps My screen resolution is 1080p 60 Hz Framerate sync NTSC/PAL/24p is enabled: If I play the first file (30.000 fps) the refresh rate of the TV doesn't change. If I play the second file (29.970 fps) the refresh rate of my TV doesn't change (1080p 60Hz)! Exactly same procedure on Dune Player: My screen resolution is 1080p 60 Hz Framerate sync NTSC/PAL/24p is enabled: If I play the first file (30.000 fps) the refresh rate of the TV doesn't change. If I play the second file (29.970 fps) the refresh rate of my TV cahnges to 59.97 Hz. This leads me to the conclusion that NTSC resolution on NMJ is displayed @ 60.000 Hz. Well this and the fact that I experience small almost invisible stuttering every 45 seconds (same problem as with 23.976 beeing displayed at 24.000 Hz). Here I uploaded the test files, please test it yourself: http://rapidshare.com/files/443841320/FrameSyncTest.rar |

RE: [Feature Request] Correct Frame Sync Output for 29.97 frames material
As an aside when you play 23.976 material what does it report. It will say 1080p/24 in the Info on the screen but it is actually 23.976.
We could do with someone that has a scaler or similar that can tell us exactly what is being received. I hate marketing guys when they refer to 24p playback they are referring to 23.976p playback. RE: [Feature Request] Correct Frame Sync Output for 29.97 frames material
If it doesn't switch between 29,97 and 30,00 then I think that should be confirmation that something is wrong, no? It would be easier if the info bar showed the actual frequency.

RE: [Feature Request] Correct Frame Sync Output for 29.97 frames material
Someone might have an AV-Receiver which shows exact frequency when connected via HDMI cable to a NMJ.
One thing is for sure- NMJ is either not able to display NTSC-29.970 fps correctly or 30p material with 30.000 fps, my testing suggests it's the first one (NTSC-29.970). |

RE: [Feature Request] Correct Frame Sync Output for 29.97 frames material
I dont think that playback at 1080p/30 has ever been possible.

RE: [Feature Request] Correct Frame Sync Output for 29.97 frames material
The 1080p 60Hz video mode equals on all players real 60.000 Hz, because not every TV is capable to display 59.940 Hz (NTSC). But every FullHD TV is capable to display 30p and 60p, because consoles like ps3 and xbox 360 have such output (30 frames or 60 frames, which both are displayed at 60.000 Hz).
So to answer your doubt- pretty much every mediaplayer can playback 30p content correctly (@ 1080p 60.000 Hz). We need a fix for real NTSC output 59.94 Hz! |

RE: [Feature Request] Correct Frame Sync Output for 29.97 frames material
I dont think that the NMT has ever been able to display at 1080p/30. It has always displayed at 1080p/60. The 100 series has the most actual output settings but the playback is supposed to be the same.
How do we know that it doesn't already play at 59.94Hz, it still hasn't been proved yet and it is Syabas's understanding that it does. When it plays these files it will say 1080p/60 in the info panel. 1080p/23.976 is played at 1080p/23.976 but as per marketing is called 24p and is displayed as 1080p/24 on the info button. 1080p/NTSC is played at 1080p/NTSC 1080p/30 is played at 1080p/60 A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |
