Fastest way to transfer files to C200 hdd
Hi,

Which is the fastest way to transfer files from my Vista PC to C200 internal HDD?

1) via NFS over Ethernet
2) via FTP over Ethernet
3) via SMB over Ethernet
4) (what I do) copy files to external USB drive, then connect USB drive to C200's USB, then use File Mode to transfer files via USB.

Fastest is SATA or eSATA.
I use this ICY DOCK MB877IK
And this Thermaltake BlacX ST0005U
The BlacX has eSATA and USB.

The nice thing about the C-200 is how you can easily pop out the hard drive and attach it to your PC with a dock like these.

I use these for large transfers. For anything less than DVD size, I FTP over Ethernet.

RE: Fastest way to transfer files to C200 hdd
Since I don't like pulling HD out of popcorn, I prefer USB connection.
You can get about 25 MB/s
1), 2) and 3) gives me only 25% of USB speed.

That is USB is 4 times faster than NFS/FTP/SMB on by 100 mbit network

As I heard NFS/FTP/SMB will give you about 12 MB/s over 100 mbit (gigabit) network, so USB is still 2 times faster.

Of course if pulling the HD out of device is acceptable - it really is the fastest way. Personally I would do that only initially

When you're talking about a 45GB Bluray rip, copying to a USB drive on your PC then copying again to your PCH is too inconvenient for me.
With the built-in dock in the C-200 it literally 2 seconds to remove the hard drive then 2 seconds to pop it into the ICY DOCK in the PC then 75 - 100 MB/s transfer over SATA.

Hi,

With the ICY DOCK, is that intended to be able to pull and plug the HDD without turning the PC off, I know it states hot swap, but it's something I never trusted or tried... is this really safe to do?

Fastest network transfer is FTP. Make sure you install the TCP fix from LTU. Search Bugs section for link/instructions.

I power off the C-200 when I swap the hard drive but I hot-plug it into my PC with no problem.
If you don't trust the hot-plug, you can power down the PC too. It's still 10 times faster than FTP.
But for smaller files, less than about 5GB, I just FTP them.

RE: Fastest way to transfer files to C200 hdd
I just upload them over the network in the background either FTP or Samba (SMB) it take about 8 minutes for a 4GB DVD... fast enough for me. BluRay takes about an hour but it's in the background so I'm not bothered...
If I want to watch immediately I just browse to my PC share folder from the C200 and play.

The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box

Thanks,

With a 200 series NMT, you can install the NMT Apps to a USB memory stick and then format your hard drive to NTFS.

If you're not up to that, you'll need an ext driver on windows to be able to read/write to the ext3 formatted hard drive.

Hi. I did swap the MNT HD to the PC using driver to read ext3. Then, I had to put a letter to the new HD tyo see it. I did my transfers - fantastic speed. But since then, I have some problems ... MNT do not start well I think, I cannot see installed apps with the CSI, cannot connect FTP (now I use wifi), it seems to me that MNT gets asleep ...
Any idea? Should I delete letter asigned to the HD in Win7 before installing back into the MNT?

Shouldn't this device work with Gigabit ethernet?
